Connecting with nature will make you happier

Nature is wise and has given us certain mechanisms, instincts and impulses designed to help us survive and be happier.. After all, this is the ultimate goal of all human beings and everything, absolutely everything we do, is aimed at achieving satisfaction with life and survival.

We work to survive, but we also seek happiness in some way through work. We pair so that the human species and more specifically, our genes, are perpetuated and also so that life is more pleasant in the company of a special person who can offer us a lot and vice versa.

In short, everything we do, all our vital projects seek to find the desired happiness and make it easier to remain in this world.

Is the world an artificial place?

Of course. And it’s not that it is, it’s that We have created an artificial world, with artificial lives that have been developing due to the demands that we ourselves have invented. The truth is that everything could be much simpler than it is if we only let ourselves be influenced by what is natural, if we became more attached to the world as it is.

When we say that the world is an artificial place, we mean that Most of our time is spent acting against nature. We work too many hours, we go from one place to another in a hurry and with such great anxiety that it seems as if we are facing beasts every day. We suffer from jealousy, emotional dependence and we experience death as if we believed we were immortal.

This is not natural and makes us suffer too much. We suffer because we think and believe that we have to perform, that we should never die, that the world is a dangerous place, that we have too many obligations, etc…

If you believe this, in the end you will end up acting as you think, with the stress and negative emotions that this entails.. If we look at the rest of nature, more specifically at animals, we will observe that they are not like us. They don’t suffer from stress ulcers or run through the jungle as if their lives were passing away. If they run, it is for fun or hunting, but not because of irrational beliefs.

Connect with nature

Connecting with nature means put aside the belief that we are so important, almost divine, and realize once and for all that we are human. We belong, like animals, to this world that we understand little but that has an established natural order and that is what it is, whether we like it or not.

We have to start embrace our own biology, what the body asks of us. Abandon self-imposed obligations and start enjoying more about what we are passionate about, about our nature.

After all, this is the only life we are going to live and wasting it on demands and obligations is not the way to find well-being, quite the opposite.

If you reflect a little you will realize that When you have a very bad time it is because you are thinking in a way that is too negative, self-critical and demanding.. These thoughts arise from the irrational beliefs that society and culture has invented and we have believed as if it were right, true and what should be. Thoughts like “work is dignified,” “if he loved me, he wouldn’t notice other women,” “I’m less valuable because I’m fat,” etc.

Certainly, these types of thoughts do not fit reality as it is. Work does not make us more worthy or more valuable than any other human being. Nor can we expect our partner to stop appreciating beauty in others or for physical appearance to dictate our place in an imaginary classification.

“Natural instincts are lost in the domestic state.”

-Charles Darwin-

Do you think that more natural societies, like the Amazon Indians, think like this? Clearly not. For them, everything is easier, they are content with eating and drinking daily. Unlike us, they only need to work for an hour or two to do this. The rest of the time is dedicated to enjoying life, art, and family.

Start connecting today

To learn to live in a more natural way and therefore be a calmer, more serene and happy person, you have to start taking actions that allow you to connect.

Visit the mountains, the beach or any place far from the city and the daily routine more frequently.. Observe how wonderful and complex the world we live in is, become infected with its biorhythm. We can enjoy the trees, the animals, the stars or the rain, contemplate them and merge with them. We have been lucky enough to know all this, don’t even think about wasting all that beauty!

Think more realistically. Get away from social prejudices, from the false ideas instilled by contemporary society and try to adjust your mind to what really is. and it has always been: Death is not unfair, it is beneficial, negative emotions are natural and often allies, sex is not a sin, we are not owners of anything other than ourselves…Make changes in the way you behave. Don’t go running to places, don’t be so intolerant of the things that happen, don’t demand and punish what doesn’t go the way you want. She begins to flow with life so that it flows with you.

Appreciate the beauty of nature through silence

As teacher Thich Nhat Hanh states: “Inner silence is essential to be able to hear the call of beauty and respond to it. If there is no silence inside us – if our mind, our body, are full of noise – we will not hear the call of beauty.”. If in our mind we only have a speech that repeats the same thing over and over again, we will not be able to appreciate the beauty that nature offers us.

Only when we are able to calm, to silence, to calm the discursive mind, can we feel part of the whole. In this way, we will once again be in contact with our authentic nature. We will know that we are really part of what surrounds us and not of what is artificially created. As the teacher insists: “Mindfulness is the practice that silences the noise within us. Without it we will allow ourselves to be carried away by one thing after another.”. So that, What better than appreciating the beauty of nature through mental silence.
