Their relationship evolved quickly.

Chuck and Gena Norris met in 1997, shortly after shooting a small role in a TV series. He was very interested in Gena, so he decided to invite her to Dallas, Texas, where they could spend some time together.

Soon after, friendship turned to love and they were married the following year, in 1998. Even with a 23-year age difference between the two, they proved that age doesn’t matter when it comes to love, especially when Chuck decided to call it quits. of his career to stay by his sick wife.

For a few years, the couple had to face a real challenge

In 2013, when his wife needed to have some MRI scans done, contrast was needed and she was injected with a type of dye, which serves as a “contrast agent”. This helps highlight tissues, blood vessels and organs so the radiologist can figure out the extent of an injury or disease.

However, this injection contains “gadolinium”, a heavy metal with magnetic properties. At the time, Gena received three injections in just eight days, which is why he fell ill.

At first, doctors could not find out the real reason for Gena’s problem. That’s when Norris realized that nothing was helping, that something more serious was happening and he felt his wife slowly leave him.

“I needed to cling to someone. I could take you anywhere in the world, I’m blessed enough and I have the money to do it, but where to?” Norris wondered. So he called a doctor in Nevada. The moment he explained to the doctor what was going on with Ginny, he simply said, “Bring her here immediately, it’s critical.”

At that moment Chuck Norris dropped his career to be by her side, thus, The Expendables 2 was his last film. He did not leave his beloved’s bedside for five months, as his wife recalls: “They were trying to stabilize my condition. My husband slept on the couch next to me and read 17 books. I can laugh now, but it wasn’t fun at the time.”

Later in 2015, the actor just voiced the thoughts of Barry Goldberg in the TV show Boy Barry, Season 3, Episode 5. Finally, we got to see him again on screen in Season 10, Episode 21 of Hawaii 5.0 .

Today they struggle to help other people with the same problems.

Now, years after the MRI scans and gadolinium poisoning, Gena needs regular stem cell therapy combined with other treatments to heal her central nervous system. However, the most important thing is that she managed to overcome the problem and Chuck Norris was always there for her.

Together, Chuck and Gena overcame all obstacles and celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary.

On their 22nd anniversary together, the actor beautifully shared with the world: “22 years ago I became the luckiest man in the world when Gena and I got married. Happy birthday my beautiful wife! There are no words to describe my love and gratitude for you. Thanks for sharing your life with me.”
