Chemical engineer invents new type of plastic that biodegrades in water, a big step towards saving the oceans

The problem of plastic pollution has been on the rise for decades, and finding ways to solve it has become a priority issue for mankind. Thousands of tons of plastic are produced around the world and remain in nature for hundreds of years. Sharon Barak, a chemical engineer from Israel, has found a way to reduce plastic’s degradation time from centuries to just a few minutes.

We all use items made of plastic on a daily basis and it’s practically impossible to imagine life without them. But conventional plastic is not eco-friendly and, when discarded, can remain in nature for decades or even centuries, posing a threat to both animals and humans.

According to experts, the average time for plastic cups to biodegrade is 50 years; straws take 200 years to decompose and plastic bottles 450 years. Sharon Barak set the goal of making a product that had the texture, looks and works like plastic, and at the same time can decompose in water without harming nature. And it accomplished its goal!

The plastic substitute product that Sharon invented is absolutely identical, but it dissolves in water in a few minutes.

Sharon and her team spent a lot of time testing many different components until they found the right formula. The “fake” plastic she invented is made from 100% ecological materials, which dissolve easily, becoming part of nature.

The product is so safe and natural that you you can even drink your solution in water🇧🇷 If a bag made of this product accidentally falls into the ocean, it will become part of it in just a few minutes, without posing a threat to marine animals, unlike an ordinary plastic bag.

Furthermore, the new invention does not need a very elaborate recycling process. When you’ve used an item and no longer need it, you you can just throw it down the drain🇧🇷 As the team’s website says, the manufacturing process isn’t complicated either: normal plastic bag-making machinery can be tweaked to make this innovative, eco-friendly product.

Now, Sharon and her team are taking a giant step forward in their mission to make the planet cleaner.

Sharon understands that there is great potential in the biodegradable plastic she has developed with her team. The product can be used to wrap food, make bottles and any other purpose for which plastic is normally used. The engineer and her team are working hard to introduce their invention to the world and believe that mass producing the eco-friendly plastic will make the world a better place to live.
