Instituto do Coração InCor/USP conducted a survey on the effects of coffee on heart health. There was already previous evidence that substances present in the drink (regardless of how it is prepared) are linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. What the work showed is that the type of roasting of the beans and the way the coffee is prepared can influence, for example, the level of bad cholesterol (LDL) existing in the circulation.

The study showed that filtered coffee produces more benefits compared to espresso or pressed coffee, which, in turn, did not show important changes in reducing cholesterol levels. The experiment concluded that the paper filter absorbs fat from the beans (cafestol, cashweoul and diterpenes) responsible for raising cholesterol levels, which, in turn, does not occur in other types of preparation.

The ABIC (Brazilian Association of Coffee Producers) informs that the drink is not harmful if taken in moderate amounts (up to four cups a day) and that it can help prevent diabetes, aid in weight loss due to its thermogenic effect, in addition to being diuretic and have antioxidant effect.

Logically, all of this only occurs if the person has a balanced diet and avoids excess fats, carbohydrates and sugars.
