Before it’s too late, a letter that invites us to reflect

Below, a beautiful letter that reflects the importance of valuing what we have here and now.

We spend half our lives imagining that we have all the time ahead of us, we believe we are immortal and we have the courage to leave for another day what is only important and not urgent. This doesn’t work like that, time still counts, even if you don’t want to be aware, it allows you to value and live what you have, the here and now. Before it’s too late, realize everything that makes you happy around you, before it’s too late value every little thing, every little gesture, every moment.

The last winning letter from the III Love Letter Contest in Toledo brings us closer to this experience of not waiting until it’s too late. Do not waste the time that we now have in our hands and know how to value and give thanks before time catches us and steals our memory. In case tomorrow is too late, in case tomorrow you are no longer here, in case tomorrow I forget.

“I am writing to you now, while you sleep, in case tomorrow I am no longer the one who wakes up next to you. On these round trips I spend more and more time on the other side and on one of them, who knows? I fear that there will be no return.
In case tomorrow I am no longer able to understand what is happening to me, In case tomorrow I can’t tell you how I admire and value your integrity, This effort of yours to be by my side, trying to make me happy despite everything, as always.
In case tomorrow I’m no longer aware of what you’re doing, when you put pieces of paper on each door so that I don’t confuse the kitchen with the bathroom; when you make us laugh after putting on my shoes without socks; when you insist on keeping the conversation alive even though I get lost in every sentence; when you sneak up on me and whisper the name of one of our grandchildren in my ear; when you respond with tenderness to these outbursts of anger that attack me, as if something inside me revealed itself against this destiny that traps me.
For those and for so many things. In case tomorrow I don’t remember your name or mine.
In case tomorrow I couldn’t thank you anymore. In case tomorrow I’m not able to tell you, even one last time, that I love you.”

Alzheimer’s and forgetfulness: don’t let it be too late

The letter shows someone’s fear of being lost in oblivion, of disappearing even when present. Losing our memory makes us forget who we are and who those around us are. We lose the essence of being what we were, butFurthermore, Alzheimer’s falls mainly on those who walk by our side.

Forgetfulness may be our worst enemy, since that we are forms of memory, we are experiences, we are the fruit of what we carry behind us, of our entire life, no matter how short it may be. When we lose this, we begin to cease to exist. So don’t wait until it’s too late, Don’t leave the most important thing for last, Don’t stop saying how much you love whoever accompanies you, don’t waste the time they dedicate to you, the seconds you spend with them.

What can we do then? How can we combat that which persecutes us and that seems to get closer every time we get older? There is no magic recipe to avoid being forgotten, but there are tips to reduce the chances.: stay active, don’t let tobacco walk with you, eat a healthy diet, regularly perform new tasks that force your brain to think and discover new routes.

Learn new things, meet new people who show you new ways of thinking and, above all, value every second of your life. Be thankful for having what you have, even if it seems little, because unfortunately the day will come when this will no longer be there and you will no longer have the opportunity to do it. Before it’s too late, start remembering it today.

Before it’s too late, Open your eyes to the present, take your heart for a walk and appreciate everything you have around you.

“You have to pay attention to the details. “They sow our lives with little stones that guide us.”
