In the week before Children’s Day, the city hall delivered three new attractions for them this Friday (8): the new inclusive playground and the revitalization of the old one, both in Barigui Park, and the revitalization of Neuma Cortes Monclaro Square, in São Braz, with the planting of ten native Ipê seedlings and fruit trees. The works were delivered by Mayor Rafael Greca and Vice President Eduardo Pimentel. “These are spaces for children to play and practice sports. It is with joy that I see life returning to squares, parks, schools and our city in this early spring”, said Greca. Fortunately, we are already in remission”, celebrated the mayor, referring to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ready since March, the inclusive playground at Parque Barigui, close to the chimney, behind the Automobile Museum, was an old demand from parents of children with special needs. With no steps or barriers, the project was conceived as a circular path, with benches, seating areas, gardens and toys. One of the main characteristics of the Environment Secretariat’s project is the integration between children of different ages, with disabilities or not. “The toys used and their arrangement favor the interaction between different motor and recreational activities”, explained the secretary of the Environment, Marilza do Carmo Oliveira Dias.

Boards for classic games were also implemented, such as tic-tac-toe, checkers/chess and track and a blackboard for chalk drawings. The old playground was remodeled, replacing the toys with more modern ones. Sand floor has been maintained.

The possibility for children to play all together is the big difference and a request from parents, according to the director of the Department for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Denise Moraes.

Teacher Cristiane Nievola Rocha and her husband, app driver Fernando Kosteski approved the inclusive playground. They are the parents of Inácio, 5 years old, and Vicente, 3, who has a rare syndrome. “For Inácio it is a great joy to be able to play with his brother”, commented Cristiane.

Incentive to sport

Since the beginning of the month, Praça Neuma Cortes Monclaro has become a meeting point for children and teenagers from São Braz for free tennis lessons. The area gained a multi-sports court with a fence, two mini-tennis courts and improvements such as planting grass, placing gravel, paving with asphalt and painting the walls. The outdoor gym was relocated and the children’s playground renovated. The square also gained new lighting.
