According to a study, couples who post a lot about themselves on social media are insecure

Nowadays, it is not at all difficult to find people declaring their love for their partner on social networks. Often, when we open our timeline, we come across extremely romantic posts, full of vows of love and promises of fidelity. And no one is exempt from this: let those who have never used the Internet to express all that special feeling for their loved one cast the first stone. However, experts have revealed that many couples with this attitude may, in reality, be hiding a not very positive side, and the subject definitely needs to be discussed.

O awesome.club delved deeper into the topic and discovered that exaggerating online publications can indicate insecurity, and that is what we will address here. Follow:

there is a limit

It’s perfectly normal and healthy to share a few romantic photos with your contacts every now and then. For example, some studies show that those people who appear next to their partner in their profile picture are generally more satisfied in their relationships and feel more connected to their loved one. On the other hand, according to other experts, there is a limit to this.

In the poll, dubbed “Would You Guess I’m in a Relationship? Commitment and relationship visibility on Facebook”, a group of scholars concluded that those who struggle to make their relationship more visible may have insecurities about the other’s feelings.

The thesis was confirmed through an experiment involving 108 couples. Each volunteer completed a short online questionnaire every night for two weeks. They reported their feelings and thoughts about their own romantic relationship, as well as their activity on Facebook, including posting photos, texts, comments and status updates. The results showed that, on days when participants felt more insecure, they tended to post more about their relationships.

Other scholars confirmed the conclusions and added information about

The results were endorsed by sexologist Nikki Goldstein, a specialist in relationships. In her opinion, people who disclose “their relationships on the Internet often deal with insecurities or have more problems with their loved one.” It is as if, for example, the individual sought validation for his love relationship from third parties and the likes and comments can end up fulfilling this role. And when someone is really having difficulties in their love life, “they find, on social networks, a way to get back on their feet”.

Other studies follow the same line. Researchers at Brunel University in the United Kingdom also revealed that those who insist on keeping their followers informed about their love life may have low self-esteem.

According to experts, such behavior can be explained by the desire to raise self-esteem and prevent other people from thinking that your relationship may not be going so well. It’s as if the individual wanted to gather support and show himself that his life together is positive. In other words, it is a search for approval.

Watch yourself before posting

Of course, there is no ready measure of whether or not you are exaggerating when posting about your relationship. In any case, regardless of whether you post a lot or prefer to be more discreet about your love life, what really matters is the feeling. Try listening to yourself more the next time you get that urge to share something about your love. After all, is your goal to share it because it’s a genuinely happy moment, or are you just thinking about the impression it will make on social media?
