A story showing that everything that goes bad is for the better.

The end of a relationship, frustrated expectations and shattered hopes can shake anyone. But the years pass, and the lived experiences transform us and prepare us for new challenges of destiny. Thus, the end of a relationship is accompanied by a strong marriage to a wonderful person, resignation in one place leads to career takeoff in another, and pain and disappointment give us strength to move on.

O awesome.club did not miss an honest story by psychologist and blogger Elena Pasternak, which proves that some moments can change life for the better, even when we lose heart and it seems that our world has ended. Check out!

Our life is like a map: sooner or later we reach a point where everything changes, as in a video game🇧🇷 It doesn’t matter what it is—the coveted dress, socks finally knit, a driver’s test, a sleepless night, a stranger, or an overheard secret. At that moment, the person undergoes irreversible changes. And, unlike the video gamesthere is no way to start life over from the desired moment.

November. I leave the registry office with my ex-husband. We got divorced 12 minutes ago. He tries to tell me something, but I just wonder if I can make it to work on time or I’d better get home. Suddenly I snap back to reality and realize what he means. My ex asks me to give him back my ring and tells me he’s going to stop by our house at night to get the money, which I kept wrapped in a handkerchief and hidden in the attic. We saved for a car or a country house, I don’t remember anymore. I can’t get the ring stuck on my finger off, like I’m in a tragicomedy. I turn the ring harder, even though I feel a lot of pain. Suddenly, she comes out, bounces to the floor several times, and lands next to my ex’s sneakers. He takes it and puts it in his pocket. And I turn around.

In the evening, as promised, he comes with his mother and sister to divide the goods. We take everything out of the cupboards and wardrobes and I even have to return the bed linen that my mother-in-law gave us as a gift, as well as a chandelier. I realize that this is probably the most embarrassing scene of my life. I try to convince them to divide their belongings in half, but I hear that “her son made more money than I did”. Obviously, no one cares about my arguments. Afterwards, my ex and I started counting money in the kitchen, while his mother packed things in big suitcases in the living room. He hands me the last hundred dollar bill, avoiding meeting my eyes, and winks. I could be wrong, but he also looked embarrassed.

They leave, and I sit in front of a pile of scattered notes and think about what to do next. I’m in the middle of renovating the apartment, with a debt for the works already done and a real estate loan still unpaid. Also, I have serious problems at work and I’m about to get fired. I sit on the floor and start building piles of money. I make several small piles and then assemble them all into one big one. I decide to leave them like that.

I saved that money during the three years of marriage, without buying anything for me. I only have a few blouses, a jacket, and a beautiful burgundy suit that I had a seamstress custom-made when I was still at university. I wore it to a work party on New Year’s Eve and a friend’s wedding. Even my dad, who knows nothing about fashion, once asked me, “Don’t you have anything else to wear?”

I make myself some tea, get under the blanket I brought from the bedroom to the living room, grab a notebook and make a to-do list for tomorrow morning:
1) Fix your hair.
2) Buy new clothes.
3) Find a way to see myself from another angle.

I have two friends: Maria and Daniele. The next day, Maria took me to the hairdresser’s, and Daniele invited me to go with her to a conference in Spain. While she was translating the engineers’ reports in the afternoon, I would sunbathe by the pool, and in the evening we would explore the island of Mallorca. Uhul! There are still few people who go to Spain, and the few that do make many jealous because they seem to be very wealthy. Anyway, we managed to get the necessary documents done surprisingly quickly, and after a few days I was fired. But I had already entered a path of no return: I renewed my hair and bought some cheap but stylish dresses.

Finally we arrived at the island, full of lights, music, bars and dances. Countless sales and discounts are printed on the windows, promising to make me happier. In one of the alleys, I find a small clothing store and, judging by the models of cars parked at the entrance, it is a very expensive establishment. In the window I see a dress that I would never be able to buy. Looks like a Brigitte Bardot or Sophia Loren dress — open, fitted at the waist and with a voluminous taffeta skirt. It’s not a casual outfit, so I can’t wear it everyday or at the office with a jacket on top. Also, I don’t have any money or a job and I still need to pay off a mortgage and a debt to renovate the apartment.

But for the next few days, wherever I go, I passed by this window. “Look at this versatile mustard-colored jacket. And this skirt? I can wear it for a picnic or to go out with my friends. And these pants and the white blouse are great to wear to the office. The only thing left is to find a job”, I keep convincing myself to put aside the idea of buying that shiny dress, as if it were a big cake between small chocolate candies, found under the Christmas tree. But he looks absolutely useless. I could only put it on if I intended to run away from home with my boyfriend, ride in a convertible at night, speeding over the speed limit and letting the wind take my hat, flying in a private jet or if I had a crush on “bad guys”. .

I can’t resist, so I stop by the store, buy the dress and receive gold flats and a bracelet as a gift. Now I want to go to the hotel, have a sandwich, wait for my friend to come back and complain about the wasted money for her. However, the universe decides that my night will pass like I’m in a movie. On the way, I come across Daniele and her colleagues, who invite us to a restaurant overlooking the ocean. There, I know an Irishman or a Scotsman, I’m not sure of his nationality. We kissed like crazy, spent the night on the yacht, and suddenly I’m face to face with my reflection in the glass. And he is beautiful.

We left the next night. I left the island without a drop of regret. Using all the money I’ve saved all these years has paid off. I realized that I can be bold and open all doors🇧🇷 I can also afford to do a lot of things, love whoever I want, feel free to wear luxurious clothes and not be afraid to want more than I can hug at the moment. That same night, Daniele helped me write my resume. I later wrote this story on my blog, and the editor of a fashion magazine offered to publish it. For the next five years I worked with him—not for money, but for interest.

We head home, and as soon as we’re out of the airport, my cell phone rings. I answer the call that determines my future: I am called for an interview. After three weeks, I went to another city and started an internship.

A few more years went by, I met my future husband, graduated from Psychology, traveled the world, bought dozens of dresses, and my life was completely transformed. But I will never forget my 25th birthday, when I was standing in front of that store in Mallorca, counting how many kilos of rice I could buy with the money left over from buying the dress. I’m so glad I walked through that door.

I think that’s all I wanted to tell you today. A hug for everyone.
