A popular app to measure beauty percentage (we tested it on actors and ordinary people)

In 2011, Pakistani web developer Akvill created an app that measures a person’s percentage of beauty. O PrettyScale was created as a joke, but has recently generated a lot of interest due to the fact that it has come to occupy one of the top spots on Google for search terms”Am I ugly?” (“I’m ugly?”). Some users praise him, others accuse him
of cruelty.

At the awesome.club We decided to test PrettyScale and find out how it will rate photos of stars that traditionally appear on lists of the most beautiful people in the world and compare the results with the ratings of ordinary people.

How does PrettyScale work?

To get started, the user must select their gender and then upload the photo or take a photo from the camera. Then you can start analyzing: align the face with the model and place the markers following the algorithm’s visual instructions.

The developer ensures that PrettyScale analyzes the mathematical beauty of the face, which gives priority to proportionality, so it is better to choose a frontal image. In fact, we found a robot that likes your ID photo!

The experiment continues

The passport photos were the ones that got the best results

What was the conclusion we made when testing PrettyScale?

it is very sensitive to adjustments and the position of the face in the photo, so sometimes looking at different photos of the same person we get totally different results; with the same prominent features, the program can show different percentages that show the presence of pitfalls in the algorithm; this robot doesn’t like men but loves passport photos; in the english version there is a warning that people with low self-esteem should not use this app, so the best advice is to accept it with humor, although our review has never given bad results that could cause great indignation from users.

Bonus: you’re wrong if you think the app doesn’t think anyone is ugly

What do you think of the mathematical assessment of beauty? Do you agree that a person’s charm, charisma and intellect are more important? Leave your opinion in the comments.
