In the animal world monogamy and true love affairs are not as frequent as among humans. Only between 3% and 5% of animals have a partner for life. However, although “eternal lovers” couples are an exception, they do exist, and normally this monogamous relationship is accompanied by traditions and rituals that look like beautiful demonstrations of devotion.
The team of incredible.club found seven super faithful animals that end up being an example for all of us.
1. The yellow conure chooses a mate at four or five months of age
This small bird, also called cacaoé, nandaia, nhandaia, queci-queci and quijuba, is found in the Amazon and other parts of South America. They are very social, live in flocks and communicate with high-pitched sounds. Before entering into a serious relationship, they feed and take care of each other.
2. The eastern crowned crane has a special mating ceremony
This bird lives in Uganda and takes their relationship very seriously. To show their commitment, male and female, still young, dance with each other in front of the whole group, only to be left alone.
3. A species of monkey that is very jealous
These monkeys live in tropical forests in South America and have a very curious relationship: they bond emotionally with their partners and are distressed when separated. Couples remain together after the mating period and live moments of great romance, sitting next to each other with their tails intertwined.
4. Puffins rub their beaks, as if kissing each other
Puffins rarely change partners and every year they return to the same place to nest with those same partners. While the female lays and takes care of the egg, the male goes out to look for food and when he returns he watches to protect the nest.
5. Seahorses stick together until their partners die
Seahorses are very responsible and it is the female who strives to get her partner’s attention. As soon as the male falls in love, he becomes pregnant and takes care of carrying the babies for a few weeks.
6. The caxine (African antelope) defends its partner with great determination
These antelopes are small, but they have big hearts. Although conflicts are rare, males are always ready to fight for females. When a dispute occurs, these males will run towards each other, stop, turn their heads and repeat the process until the opponent gives up.
7. Otters hold hands while they sleep so they don’t get lost.
Giant otters live in large families and always stay together. They share the tasks equally and often let themselves be helped by other otters, who take care of the pups.
Which of these loving habits made you die of love? If you know other animals that stay with their companions for life, tell them in the comments.
