6 Reasons to start showering every other day

Most people shower once a day or more. However, if you start to wonder why we need to get in the shower every 24 hours, you might realize that we shower more than necessary. In fact, exaggerating the frequency of baths is not beneficial when it comes to our appearance or even our health.

The team of awesome.club decided to investigate what would happen if you started taking less frequent showers and why it might be worth rethinking this habit.

1. Less exposure to infections

You might think that showering every day is healthier than showering less often, but the opposite is true. Frequent baths tend to unbalance the presence of microorganisms on the skin, leaving it less protected and more vulnerable to infections. Our immune system needs certain stimuli from bacteria and dirt, so showering too often can weaken our defenses and the body’s ability to protect us against viruses.

2. Your skin will surely thank you

Long, hot baths can even be relaxing and leave that nice clean feeling. However, they tend to contribute to premature aging. Our skin is covered by an outer fatty layer, responsible for keeping hydration and tissues firm, with a more youthful appearance. Washing and scrubbing, however, has the potential to remove this layer, leaving the skin irritated, wrinkled and dry.

3. Hair can grow faster

Contradictory as it may seem, washing your hair every day can make it even more opaque and greasy. When we wash our locks daily, we end up removing the outer layer of oil that works as a protective shield against possible damage. Consequently, the pores start to produce even more sebum, leaving the scalp itchy and irritated. Not to mention the risk of ending up with clogged pores. In turn, the phenomenon can affect the growth of wires, preventing them from reaching their best look.

4. You may lose a few pounds

The idea of taking a relaxing bath right after a delicious meal may seem attractive, but the habit can end up making you gain a few pounds. Digesting food requires adequate blood flow to the stomach, and when we get into the bath, we lower our body temperature, which throws the digestive system into turmoil. When repeated frequently, the habit tends to damage the digestive system, causing the person to put on a little weight.

5. You will be less prone to allergic reactions

It’s possible that too frequent baths contribute to those pesky allergies. When the acidic covering of the skin is damaged, it decreases its ability to fight against the effects of external agents. Thoroughly removing all dirt from fabrics causes the immune system to go “lazy,” which often results in allergies, asthma, and even diabetes.

6. It’s better for reproductive health

Just like the skin on the body in general, the delicate area around your private parts also needs a bacterial balance to stay healthy. Bath water can contain heavy metals and other harmful chemicals, not to mention the artificial fragrances and additives found in soaps and shower gels. Exposure to these substances on a daily basis can affect the bacteria present in the private parts, causing itching, irritation and various infections.
