March 20 – March Equinox: The March equinox occurs at 21:58 UTC. The Sun shines directly over the Equator and on this day the amounts of time are almost equal day and night across the world. This is also the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the northern hemisphere and the first day of autumn (autumn equinox) in the southern hemisphere.

April 21, 22 – Lyrids Meteor Shower: The Lyrids are an average shower, producing about 20 meteors per hour at their peak. It can generate glowing dust trails that last for several seconds. The rain peaks on April 21 and 22, although some meteors may be visible from April 16 to 25. The waning moon may be a problem this year, hiding the whole phenomenon, but the brightest meteors may prevail with their brightness. Look for them in the constellation Lyra after midnight.

May 5, 6 – Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower: The Eta Aquarids are a shower of light, usually producing around 10 meteors an hour at their peak. Its peak usually occurs on May 5th and 6th, but it can also be seen well any morning from May 4th to 7th. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation of Aquarius. A thin crescent moon may appear in the early evening, leaving the sky dark for this year’s apparition. The best visibility is usually towards the east after midnight, away from city lights.

June 10 – Jupiter at Opposition: The giant planet will have its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. This is the best time to see and photograph Jupiter and its moons.

June 21 – June Solstice: The June solstice takes place at 15:54 UTC. The Earth’s North Pole will be tilted towards the Sun, which will have reached its northernmost position in the sky and will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer at 23.44 degrees north latitude. This is the first day of summer (summer solstice) in the northern hemisphere and the first day of winter (winter solstice) in the southern hemisphere.

July 2 – Total Solar Eclipse: The total eclipse will only be visible in some parts of the southern Pacific Ocean, in central Chile, and central Argentina. A partial eclipse will be visible in many parts of the southern South Pacific Ocean and western America.

July 16 – Partial Lunar Eclipse: The eclipse will be visible from almost all of Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and the Indian Ocean.

July 28, 29 – Southern Delta Meteor Shower Aquarids: Delta Aquarids can produce around 20 meteors per hour at their peak. The shower peaks on July 28 and 29, but some meteors can also be seen from July 18 to August 18. The radiant point for this phenomenon will be in the constellation of Aquarius.
