For my daughter’s birthday, a friend of hers and I were organizing a surprise party, but I planned it on Sunday and the friend planned it on Saturday. Because of this mismatch of dates, on Saturday I was at the market shopping for the Sunday party, and my other daughter called me saying that the guests were already arriving. I ran out and when I got home I asked the baker to make the cake in advance and we prepared some hot dogs right away. We had the surprise party, sang happy birthday and ended up eating the cake only at 11:00 pm. ©Maah Chagas/FacebookIn college, during breaks, our class was almost all together. On my birthday, I went downstairs and didn’t see anyone. I sat alone, so sad and lonely, but I didn’t suspect anything, I just thought it was a sad coincidence. Soon after, the group arrived bringing cake, balloons, soft drinks and singing happy birthday to me. It was a birthday that made a difference in my life, I was very happy and it was an unforgettable date!!! ©Priscila Lima/Facebook It was my birthday and I was very sad because no one had congratulated me. At night, there was a surprise party with cake, snacks and I even got a cell phone that had been released that year. It was wonderful! ©Gedeane Walker/FacebookWe prepared a surprise party for a neighbor, a friend of ours. When it was time to sing happy birthday, we went to call him at his apartment, which was next door. Only then did we find out that he had traveled, so we called his wife and son, we sang happy birthday with him on the phone and enjoyed the “food and drinks” of the party without the birthday boy being physically present. ©Duda de Ayrá/Facebook
My friends organized a surprise baby shower for me and accidentally booked the party on the same day I had a hospital appointment to see if it was due date. Everything that day ended up making me late and the doctor suspected that the baby would be born soon. Bottom line: I didn’t go to my surprise baby shower, but all the guests did, having fun without me. I only managed to return home at the end of the day, when the party was already over. And my baby wasn’t born until a week later. ©Joana Cruz/Facebook They organized a surprise for me, but my daughter, who was only 4 years old, came up to me and said: “Mom, my dad said they were going to have a party for you, but not to tell.. .” The worst thing is that at the time I had to pretend I didn’t know anything. ©Elessandra Mendonça/Facebook They had a surprise party, but it was such a surprise, such a surprise that I didn’t suspect anything at all and went on a trip. On the day of the party, my friends took a piece of wood, pasted a piece of paper with my name on it and left this “adornment” in the celebration representing me, as if it were me, and the party happened even without my presence. ©Janice Shimazaki/FacebookI have a birthday on April 1st and once my husband decided to throw me a surprise party. He invited his friends, but as he is very playful, no one believed it was a real party, precisely because it was on April Fools’ Day. It was time for me to go home and no guests had yet appeared. He had to call everyone and explain that it wasn’t a prank, otherwise no one would have come. ©Cris Bertossi/Facebook
I love throwing parties for people in my family and also for my work. One fine April day, I organized an employee’s surprise party, bought cake, sweets and balloons. I called everyone on the team, including my boss, and we stayed in a room waiting for the birthday girl to enter. When she arrived, we yelled, “SURPRISAAAAA!!!!!” and we sing happy birthday. In the end, she continued with an astonished face, I asked what was going on and she said: “My birthday is in September”. ©Camila Spigariol/FacebookWhen I was a kid, my best friend threw me a surprise party. While people were getting ready for the party, she called me to play, just to be on the lookout. I had already noticed, but I believed that my mother was just wrapping a present. So I pretended not to know and played around until I thought I had enough time to complete a package. I decided to go home, but my friend tried to stop me, and I ended up kicking her in the shin and she still kicked back. In the end, I ran out and when I entered the house, I saw everyone organizing the party and ended up getting upset for spoiling the surprise. ©Rayssa Mandu/FacebookMy high school friends arranged to throw me a surprise party at the bakery we used to go to. It was exam day and I always finished quickly, I finished the exam and went home. After an hour or so, my friends called me wanting to know where I was. They forgot to call me and I missed my surprise party. ©Isabella A. Oliveira Monteiro/FacebookI went with my husband to a show that was very lively and he kept saying he was tired and wanted to leave. But I didn’t, because I was celebrating my birthday. Arriving home, my friends were almost giving up on the surprise party they had organized for me, because we were more than two hours late. This was the fastest celebration I’ve ever had, but I was very happy for everyone’s affection, for waiting for me for so long. ©Maria Vicentina/Facebook
My brother and I celebrated our birthday in the same month, just a few days apart. One day (it wasn’t his birthday or mine, it was the day between the two dates), I got home, went into the living room and, suddenly, a bunch of people came out of the room shouting: “SURPRISE!!!!” They came in bringing cake, balloons and everything. There I was, all happy and very emotional, until my mother said: “Wait a minute, it’s not Lucas (my brother) yet!” ©Karol Rengel/Facebook It was my 18th birthday and I was really scared someone would ruin my cake, so I put it in my room so no one would mess with it. However, I went to put on my shoes, which were under the bed, and ended up sitting on top of that cake. I screwed up a lot of it, but I’m glad it was me, right? ©Samantha Paganelli Floriano/FacebookI worked at a company that always gave employees cake, snacks and soft drinks on their birthday, but because it was a common gesture, it was never a surprise. That year, my birthday fell on a Friday and my boss entered the room saying: “Lô, your cake will have to wait for next week, things are very busy today. We won’t be able to stop, okay?” I agreed and she left. In the evening she “screamed” at me from the kitchen and I ran. All my colleagues were around the table with cake, pie, snacks and even balloons… I felt very special that day. ©Lorraine Mauri Quiuqui/Facebook On my 8th birthday the lights went out at the party… my mom had to put candles in the empty glass soda bottles. She had a shank to make the sandwiches and when the light came back, the shank was simply gone. That same day, I also woke up with chicken pox and for the guests not to leave, my mother said it was a shrimp allergy. ©Vivian Varandas Cardoso/Facebook
On my 10th birthday, my mom invited some girls to my party. They were from my school, but I didn’t talk to them. When it was time to sing happy birthday, one of them tried to stick my face in the cake and we got into a fight… I ended up being grounded on my birthday. ©Nathalia G. Araujo/Facebook We went to get the delicacies from the surprise party that were hidden in the back room, and we saw the neighbor’s cat eating the cake. We were scared, but one of the party organizers managed to fix the damage and the party continued. I just didn’t understand why the girl who “fixed” the cake didn’t want any slice, so she loved sweets. The birthday boy was my husband and he thought the “cat slime cake” was good. ©Letícia Do Vale/Facebook It wasn’t my party, but once I accidentally ruined a boy’s birthday because I set the decorations on fire. I was about 8 years old and when it was time to sing happy birthday, all the children got a candle to hold. I was standing next to the bowl, the frilly one with wrapped coconut candy, which caught fire with all the Styrofoam decorations. I never said it was my fault. ©Claudia Regina Armonas/Facebook
