An American couple had the brilliant idea of transforming photographs into works of art and, in this way, impacted the world and the media with such beauty of their work. For over ten years, Regis and Kahran have been photographing black children and adolescents in a unique, authentic way, with a whole context behind these shots. Their work represents very well the culture of different countries, histories and nationalities.
The photographers went viral on the internet a few years ago promoting black beauty and empowering children and young people through the lens of afroart — or Afro art in Portuguese. Their project aims to make people accept their hair and the color of their skin. “We think it’s very important for black kids to see positive media images that look like them,” Kahran revealed in an interview. “Unfortunately, the lack of diversity often influences stereotypes that they are not ‘good enough’, and this almost always leads them to have low self-esteem,” he added.
