I once saw a guy at the gym who looked a lot like an old friend of mine. When he got closer, I wanted to say hello, but I realized he was a stranger. I disguised my confusion, since it wasn’t the first time I’d been in such a situation. As I sat smiling at him, the man started chatting with me, as if we had known each other for many years. I thought we had met before and confessed that I don’t see well and apologized for mistaking him for someone else. Suddenly he asked:

A man adjusted his treadmill speed to mine. He didn’t look at me or say anything. But I believe he was watching me because as soon as mine gave an acceleration signal, the guy immediately pressed the button on his treadmill to run at the same pace as me. Curious, a few times I accelerated just to confirm that he would do the same. And he did. I once increased my speed to 10 in order to test the subject’s stamina.
