15. Raul Seixas
Famous for popularizing Rock in Brazil, he was a composer, philosopher, poet and singer. In his anthropophagic genius, he mixed rock and roll with typical northeastern rhythms, such as baião, creating a genuine work that is recognized and admired to this day.
14. Durval Lélys
Architect, plastic artist and sculptor. He is mainly recognized for being one of the greatest electric trio pullers of carnivals in the world, being guitarist, singer and songwriter of Asa de Águia.
13. Novos Baianos
In the 70s, rockers did not like to mix with samba singers (and vice versa). Paulinho Boca de Cantor, Moraes Moreira and Baby Consuelo, like good Bahians, managed to mix samba, rock, bossa nova, choro and baião. The group marked the Brazilian music scene and will never be forgotten.
12. Ivete Sangalo
Certainly one of the most beloved singers in the country, she also works as an instrumentalist, businesswoman, producer and songwriter. She was considered one of the most influential personalities in Brazil by the Ipsos Institute.
11. João Gilberto
One of the most important names in Brazilian music, he was guitarist, singer, composer and father of bossa nova. He was the one who paved the way for countless other great names, such as Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Chico Buarque and many others.
10. Milton Santos
Illustrious professor and one of the most prominent thinkers and geographers in Brazilian history. He produced an extensive work and was the only Brazilian to receive the Vautrin Lud prize, a kind of Nobel Prize for geography.
9. Jorge Amado
He is among the Brazilian writers with the most books sold. His literary works extol the local culture, land and people, and have been translated into around 50 languages. In addition, he is one of the most adapted Brazilian authors on screen.
His works have well-known names in popular culture, such as Gabriela Cravo and Canela; Tieta do Agreste; Tent of Miracles; Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands; and Teresa Batista Tired of War, among others.

8. Dorival Caymmi
He produced songs that expressed the customs, traditions and habits of the people of Bahia. Dorival, inspired by the songs of black singers, was marked as one of the greatest composers in Brazil.
As a complete artist, he was also an actor, singer and painter. Her first big hit was “O que é que a Baiana Tem?”, performed in the film Banana da Terra by Carmen Miranda.

7. The Tincoans
The group pioneered the dissemination of manifestations inherited from Africa. The Tincoãs were essential for the appreciation of our African roots and ancestors and for the preservation of Bahia’s cultural identity.
6. Gilberto Gil
His artistic career was born under the influence of the literary world of writers like Monteiro Lobato. Gil went on to study Business Administration, but it was at that moment that he became acquainted with the work of Dorival and many others who influenced him.
Notes from João Gilberto passed through his fingers, accordion chords by Luiz Gonzaga, Beatles and countless others. These elements contributed to what emerged later, known as the Tropicalista movement, led by him and Caetano Veloso.
5. Caetano Veloso
Caetano Veloso was always an indignant, enthusiastic and restless young man. During the military period, he was arrested and exiled, and was marked by his songs of political nature. His career has spanned five decades and the artist is recognized as a highly controversial personality in the country.
4. Gal Costa
Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos debuted alongside big names such as Gil, Caetano, Tom Zé and Maria Bethânia. She released her first album in 1969 and her remarkable voice established her as an MPB personality.
3. Lázaro Ramos
From humble origins, he grew up in an extremely rich cultural environment in Salvador, where he found his vocation. He had to work in a clinical analysis laboratory to help support the household, as his mother became ill and he was the only child.
After his participation in the soap opera Cobras e Lagartos, the actor gained a lot of visibility and sympathy from the viewers. The soap opera earned him an Emmy nomination and jumpstarted his career.
2. Castro Alves
Born in 1847, in the Recôncavo region of Bahia, Antônio Frederico de Castro Alves taught at the Faculty of Medicine. He became known as one of our great poets and is the patron of chair number 7 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
1. Daniela Mercury
Winner of a Latin Grammy, Daniela is considered the precursor of samba-reggae in Brazil with her album “O Canto da Cidade”. There are those who believe that Bahia’s carnival managed to get more publicity because of this record.
The singer also won her place in Portugal, where she participates in some freshman programs.
