15 Musicians and Bands Who Never Show Their Face

Being a musician requires talent and a big personality, both of which are used by some groups, duets, or soloists, adding a particular and anonymous touch, such as colorful clothes and/or strange masks. The mysterious “characters” often remain unidentified even after several years, going completely unnoticed on the street and in the press. That way, they manage to stand out more for their art than for their lives offstage.

We became interested in this topic and are sharing a list of musicians who rarely show their identity. At the end of the post, you’ll find a bonus featuring a band that has remained anonymous for a while, but who are human like other artists.

The Residents are an American band that has been active and anonymous since the 1970s. The group started as a pop art collective in the United States and is famous for its rock/pop genre, as well as its multimedia works, miniseries, and short films. Although they appear on television giving interviews, they hide their faces under a mask.

A man named Homer Flynn is the one who gives news and details on behalf of the group, and some network users believe he is the lead singer, but he has always denied it. According to an article in which Flynn was interviewed, the reasons for hiding are because they prefer to have a healthy distance between public and private life.

2. slipknot

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in 1995. Their success is not only due to their music but also to the eye-catching masks they wear at their concerts and events.

The group members hide their faces under a mask that is a caricature of some personality traits that change over the years. In 2019, for the release of their latest album, they revealed the new faces they will wear.

3. Claptone

Claptone is a German musician and producer. He not only became known for his work in the electronics industry but also for appearing at concerts and events in a golden bird-shaped mask and white gloves. Everything indicates that he was inspired by the characters of Commedia dell’arte. This costume, to this day, allows him to hide his identity so that no details of his life are known. It is believed that Claptone really is two people because they played shows in two different places at the same time. The artist said that his reason for hiding is “I don’t want gossip and unimportant gossip about my life, which has nothing to do with music, to distract people.”
