15+ Internet users who realized they were undervalued at work and decided to look for a new job

It’s really bad when your work isn’t appreciated, but even worse when you’re not paid well. Not getting a raise or bonus can be overcome; another thing is when the salary is barely enough to survive.

We, from awesome.club, we have collected reports from Internet users who are certain that they are not well paid, and how this affects their lives. Check out!

I resigned from the company where I worked as a chemical engineer for two years. The first reason was the lack of salary increase. The second, the increase in workload: the volume of service and the number of reports increased. The icing on the cake was a conversation with the head of the department. When I hinted that it would be nice to raise employees’ salaries, he said two classic phrases: “I don’t want to hear another word about salary!” and “If you are not satisfied, just leave!”. © Rena29 / PikabuAt my last job, it was normal to stay until midnight, work weekends and holidays, and still do a lot of non-work related things for the bosses. Another thing I didn’t like was having to congratulate colleagues on their birthdays and corporate parties. © Sandwich / AdMeMy friend’s son got a job at a construction company as a delivery boy. He ended up being given other tasks besides delivering documents. As time went on, he had more and more work to do, and he had to work overtime. They promised to pay everything, but suddenly they just fired him without paying anything. A few months later, the company lost several contracts, so they underwent a tax audit that ended in hefty fines. © Mike Rusis / Facebook Years ago, I worked at a restaurant around Christmas time. The place was supposed to run with four waitresses, a busboy, a dishwasher, the manager, and two cooks. One day, just the manager and I showed up. He was cooking and I was taking orders, serving, taking care of tables, washing dishes… During working hours, I accidentally dropped two plates of bread and they broke. The manager turned around and told me, “I’m going to have to deduct it from your paycheck.” I replied that it was funny, I thought I was joking, but I wasn’t. I turned around, picked up a pile of plates, threw them on the floor and said, “Take that off my paycheck too,” and walked away. © seagoingcook / Reddit
I worked in the IT department of a small company. Several times I had to go to the owner’s house to configure his computer. This soon turned into a duty: “Come in tonight, my daughter has a school project and the printer isn’t working.” Or “My child has virus-ridden his computer again, we need to clean it up.” He never paid me for these visits. When he finally said, “I’m tired, I quit,” they didn’t accept my resignation, as if they had a choice. © RubertVonRubens / RedditMy husband worked at an office equipment repair shop before we were married. It was an average deal. He got several customers who paid in advance, but his boss spent it all on his domestic needs, like buying a fur coat and boots for his wife. My husband, in order not to lose the good relationship with these customers, invested his own money to fulfill the orders and resigned. © Azarika / AdMeMy colleagues even dissuaded me from asking for the bills. I said: “Where have you ever seen a job that pays 2,300 reais, while in other places they pay 3,000?” My colleagues then gave me more work with the promise of raising my salary to 3,000. In the end, my boss said, “Did I promise? I myself receive 3 thousand reais”. I resigned that same day, and I also made it clear that it didn’t matter what date they would sign my resignation, as I was leaving at that very moment. © zhenya1981 / Pikabu
I resigned when I learned that the owner of the restaurant, who said he couldn’t pay me extra for working in management and social media, hired five new staff, a bar manager and bought 20 big screen TVs. © HarmsWayChad / Reddit I worked at a famous retail chain. The first month, I barely got an advance on my salary. In the second, everyone received it, except me. I went to talk to my boss, who told me I needed to talk directly to the director to get paid. In short, I succeeded, but I was fired. © Valeria Dovnar / AdMeI’ve worked for the same company for over 12 years. I entered right after university, not knowing much. During this time, of course, I increased my qualifications, and today my salary is 475 dollars. A month ago, a new guy joined our department, in the same position I joined, back in the beginning. He has zero experience and no qualifications. I have to explain and show him everything, but his salary is 590 dollars. In our office this is common practice — newer employees earn higher salaries. © Mihail1984 / Pikabu
I started working as a truck loader at a large retail store right out of high school. I immediately fell in love with working in this field and made it my goal to get promoted. I went through several different tests, because, only then could I have the opportunity to be considered for the position of manager. In two years I passed all the exams, in fact, I already had a managerial workload, but I didn’t receive the salary for that function. So they hired a new HR manager and told me they were no longer considering me for a managerial position, my hours were cut, my paycheck didn’t pay for gas to get to work, and my car broke down. Afterwards, everything got even worse: half of the employees resigned and, after a while, I went to HR myself with a big smile to resign. © pocketfulofsunshine- / Reddit I was paid less than minimum wage and found out I made less than two newcomers in bar training. Newbies earned 1.5 times as much as I did per night, just on tips. I confronted my boss about my salary being $13.50 an hour and the girls being $14. They even tried to keep me, but I ended up resigning. © Heflar / RedditWorked at a store. Employee turnover was constant, discounts and fines were frequent. The workload was 14 hours a day, with a 15-minute break for tea in the morning and evening, and half an hour for lunch, but you had to sign your chosen time in the log book in advance. Couldn’t go outside to get some air as the head of security immediately called the manager to find out why the employee wasn’t in the lounge. Daily we received fines, absences and penalties. I got tired of everything and left, and other people did the same. © Alena Kravchuk / Facebook
I worked in two companies as an engineer. And it was the same story: Want a raise? Write a formal request and we’ll think about it. On the first job, they didn’t think much of it, but on the second they raised my salary by just over a dollar. Well, I realized I shouldn’t stay there, I found a new job and moved out of town. After me, four more people left to work there, including the chief engineer. Our positions are empty to this day, and the rest of the staff has to make do. © Sword.Fish / PikabuI’m a single mother and earn little more than minimum wage doing the work of three people: answering calls and answering emails at any time of the day or night, including holidays, vacations, when I’m on sick leave , etc. I plucked up courage and decided to ask for a raise, only to discover that the woman I worked with hadn’t gotten one in 10 years. I was at a dead end: if they didn’t give me the raise, I couldn’t pay my bills, if they did, my colleague would make my life more difficult. © Marisa Bader / QuoraIf you say you do a little extra like a manicure, everyone thinks you’re rolling in cash. They even suggest that he quit his job at the factory, because that way he could earn more by doing nails. It’s funny to hear that, because it’s actually hard work. Of course, when you get regular customers it’s easier, but in the beginning it’s quite complicated. The salary is unstable, no vacations, no sick leave and sometimes you come across annoying clients. If you are not ready for such overwork, it is better to work in a factory. © Overheard Verkhnyaya Pyshma and Sredneuralsk / VK
