15+ Great villains of Brazilian soap operas and the worst evils they committed

They harass everyone’s lives, create wild plans to separate the romantic couple, set up sabotage, betrayals and different traps in each chapter. Although we know that everything will work out in the end, what fun would a soap opera be without a good villain? Can you imagine?

Thanks to good texts and great interpretations, some villains have become unforgettable and go through decades frightening generations in reruns and, now, on the streaming service. They are our favorite baddies!

18. Josiane — Agatha Moreira (The owner of the piece2019)

Josiane is the latest candidate for the pantheon of unforgettable villains. Or, at least, she is the one that is “fresher” in the public’s memory. However, the character played by Agatha Moreira, in The owner of the pieceby Walcyr Carrasco, is far from having all the requirements of a classic villain, according to some television critics.

The story begins with the escape of Maria da Paz (Juliana Paes) during a fight between families. She is about to marry Amadeu (Marcos Palmeira), who belongs to the rival clan, but violent events force her to renounce her passion. She arrives in Rio de Janeiro pregnant with Josiane, who, 20 years later, will be her great antagonist.

Worst Villains:

Josiane is ashamed of the manners of her mother, Maria da Paz, which she considers tacky and not in keeping with the reputation of a boleira that she built. She arranges the marriage of her partner Régis (Reynaldo Gianecchini) with her mother, in order to steal her fortune. She is the mastermind behind the arson at Maria da Paz’s cake factory. She eliminates two characters who discover her Machiavellian plans and proceed to blackmail her. She manages to take control of her mother’s business and kicks her out of the house. After being arrested for her crimes, she pretends to be regenerated, but the devilish look in her last scene reveals to the viewer that she remains the same as ever.

17. Carminha — Adriana Esteves (Brazil Avenue2012)

Carminha was one of the many highlights of Adriana Esteves’ career. In Brazil Avenue, by João Emanuel Carneiro, she is an unscrupulous, perverse and treacherous woman, who manages to hide feelings and deceive many people, except for Rita (Débora Falabella), a girl she mistreated in childhood. The main motivation of the plot is Rita’s revenge against the villain.

Rita is the daughter of Genésio (Tony Ramos) and stepdaughter of Carminha. The girl is abandoned in a dump by her stepmother after Genésio dies and Carminha manages to get hold of a fortune he kept hidden. The villain pretends to be happy in her marriage to Tufão (Murilo Benício), the football player who ran over Genésio. But she maintains the romance with her partner Max (Marcello Novaes). Rita will reappear pretending to be Nina, to work as a cook at the bitch’s house.

Main villains:

Carminha deceives Typhoon. What she wants is the well-being that her husband’s money gives her. In addition to abandoning her stepdaughter, she leaves a legitimate son (Potato) to his own devices, in the same dump. Later, Batata is rescued by Carminha from the garbage dump, who adopts him as Jorginho (Cauã Reymond), feigning compassion. He rejects his youngest daughter, Agatha (Ana Karolina), humiliating her in every way. She pretends to be kidnapped to get money from Typhoon. She tries to eliminate Max when her schemes are discovered by her husband. Carminha ends up poor, at the dump where she abandoned the children.

16. Tereza Cristina — Christiane Torloni (Fine Print2011)

The history of Fine Printcreated by Aguinaldo Silva and his team, part of the antagonism between the struggling and poor widow Griselda (Lilia Cabral) and the futile and affected rich woman Tereza Cristina, who gave Christiane Torloni the chance to shine as a villain.

It all starts when Antenor (Caio Castro), Griselda’s son, falls in love with Patricia (Adriana Birolli), Tereza’s daughter. He gets a fake mother to introduce to the wealthy family, ashamed of his humble origins. But Griselda discovers the farce and unmasks her own son. Later, Griselda wins a big prize in the lottery and buys a house in the same condominium as Tereza. And the tension between the two only increases.

Main villains:

In her psychosis, Tereza Cristina accuses Griselda and her son of being scammers interested in stealing her fortune. The temperature rises when René (Dalton Vigh), Tereza’s husband, separates from her and gets involved with Griselda. Tereza hides a secret from the past and does not hesitate to commit crimes against anyone willing to reveal it. Journalist Marcela (Suzana Pires) discovers her rottenness and is murdered. After committing attempts on Griselda’s children, Tereza Cristina kidnaps her and tries to get rid of the heroin, with the help of an accomplice, but is unable to carry out the plan. The evil one disappears in a storm at sea with Pereirinha (José Mayer), Griselda’s husband who was presumed dead for years. In the last chapter, she is seen aboard a luxury car.

15. Clara — Mariana Ximenes (passionate2010)

Mariana Ximenes, who the public was used to seeing as a girl, revealed her talent for playing villains with Clara, in Silvio de Abreu’s soap opera. the plot of passionate begins with the death of millionaire Eugênio Gouveia (Mauro Mendonça), who reveals a great secret to his wife, Bete (Fernanda Montenegro): the child she had out of wedlock did not die, as everyone believed. He was given to a couple who took the baby to Italy.

His partner Fred (Reynaldo Gianecchini) travels to Italy and becomes attorney for Totó (Tony Ramos), now heir to part of the Gouveia fortune. They get involved with the powerful and, through a coup, Fred manages to become the majority shareholder in the family’s metallurgical company.

Worst Villains:

Clara seduces Toto and, even after the plot of the power of attorney is revealed, the Italian continues to believe in the viper, who says he was blackmailed by Fred. She marries Toto. Alongside Diogo (Daniel Boaventura), Clara simulates a robbery to eliminate Totó. But Diogo is united with him and they have prepared an intricate trap for Clara to think that she was the author of the shot that “killed” her husband. Toto is alive and plans to unmask the villain. Clara is arrested again, but manages to escape. The car in which she flees is found, after an accident, with a charred body, which is identified as Clara’s. It turns out that Clara is very much alive and, before fleeing the country, she finds time to kill Saulo (Werner Schünemann), son of Bete and Eugênio. Eugênio’s death was engineered by Saulo, with Clara taking charge of poisoning the patriarch of the Gouveia. In the last chapter, Clara appears on a paradise beach, taking care of an old man – the audience assumes that he will be her next victim of scams. Fred ends up in prison, accused of the murder of Saulo, after another setup by Clara.

14. Flora — Patricia Pillar (The favorite2008)

One of the strengths of João Emanuel Carneiro’s plot in The favorite is to make us believe, at the beginning of the novel, that Flora is innocent and did not deserve to spend years in jail for the death of her sister’s husband, Donatela (Claudia Raia). This ambiguity was taken very well by the protagonists, especially by Patricia Pillar in the role of the scoundrel who plays the saint. For the amount of crimes she commits, she can be considered one of the most dangerous villains in the history of telenovelas.

The rivalry between the sisters comes from childhood, when they formed the country duo Faísca and Espoleta. And it explodes when Marcelo Fontini (Flavio Tolezani) is murdered, with whom Flora had a daughter, Lara (Mariana Ximenes). When Flora gets out of prison, Donatela takes every care that her sister doesn’t get close to Lara, claiming that the ex-convict is a psychopath.

Worst Villains:

In a decisive chapter for the course of the plot, Flora assumes her true face and continues to pursue Donatela, causing her sister to be blamed for the death of Dr. Salvatore (Walmor Chagas) and go to jail. Flora also kills journalist Maíra (Juliana Paes), who discovers her frauds, and blackmailer Dodi (Murilo Benício). She still tries to kill journalist Zé Bob (Carmo Dalla Vechia) and unscrupulous businessman Silverinha (Ary Fontoura). Lara is not Marcelo’s daughter, but Dodi’s (Murilo Benício). Flora hides the fact so that the girl is entitled to the Fontini inheritance. This is the real reason for Marcelo’s murder, who discovers that he is not Lara’s father. He gets the job of president of the Fontini family factory, tricking the matriarch, Irene (Glória Menezes), who always believed in her. She brings the family business and finances to ruin. She ends up in prison, telling her cellmates that her name is Donatela.

13. Norma Gusmão — Carolina Ferraz (Pure beauty2008)

Carolina Ferraz and her Norma became a meme with the phrase: “I am Rica!!!” The image and the gif to this day appear on our networks. The audio was even mixed on an electronic basis with the catchphrase “pobreza pega”, by Bia Falcão, in a clip with images of several soap opera villains. This makes it difficult to forget the dangerous Norma in the story written by Andréa Maltarolli.

Viewers are not suspicious of Norma’s evil in the first few chapters. Her evil personality is revealed when Guilherme (Edson Celulari), a successful aeronautical engineer, sees his position collapse because of accidents with the helicopter he designed. One of the disasters supposedly kills Joana’s mother (Regiane Alves), with whom Guilherme is in love.

Worst Villains:

Norma is only interested in Guilherme because of his fortune and social position. When she realizes that she won’t be able to win him over, she does everything to ruin his reputation. She is the one who sabotages Guilherme’s project, causing the accidents. She blackmails a professor who could prove that Guilherme’s original helicopter design was safe. She also blackmails Sonia (Christiane Torloni), Joana’s mother, who reappears after the accident. The villain threatens to tell Sônia’s past secrets, who becomes the antagonist of Guilherme and Joana’s romance. Norma’s sabotage is discovered. She is arrested, but escapes with the help of Tomás (Werner Schünemann), another bad character.

12. Bia Falcão — Fernanda Montenegro (Wonderful2005)

Bia Falcão, played by Fernanda Montenegro in Wonderful, is one of the evil favorites of the soap opera audience.
