13 Photos That Show Why We Need to Save the Planet

The year 2017 was the hottest in the history of weather forecasts, carried out for about a century and a half. Some scholars say that soon, Europe and the United States will suffer from the melting of the Arctic. We do not know how accurate the predictions of scientists are, what is certain is that we have not done anything good for the Planet.

Experts called the conjunction of weather disasters “state of mind”, or “nervous” weather. The main reason for this unusual behavior is the warming of the Arctic, as the Greenland ice sheet is disappearing twice as fast as it was 10 years ago.

O awesome.club prepared a compilation of facts indicating the bad mood of nature, caused mainly by human beings.

Abnormal heat makes people get used to new conditions. The temperature in Arizona (USA) reached 48°C and in Kuwait, at 53°C

Due to the exposure of chemical compounds, the ozone layer is being destroyed. This layer defends us from devastating ultraviolet radiation. For meteorologists around the world, the abnormal increase in temperature is to blame.

Temperatures have reached incredible lows in regions where cold is unusual

Everyone saw the photos of alligators buried in the ice, and iguanas that fell out of trees as people tried to save them. Alligators adapt to these changes in temperature, but for iguanas it is a deadly danger.

In the Sahara desert it snows for the third consecutive year

It seems that soon humanity will get used to this phenomenon, which, unfortunately, is not normal. You might think: so why talk about global warming if it’s snowing even in the desert? We are sorry to inform you, but even this phenomenon has something to do with global warming. This is because the fundamental condition for the formation of snow is the existence of high humidity in the air. And the Atlantic Ocean (which washes the Sahara coast of Morocco, for example) is historically warmer and wetter.

This Siberian Tiger approached people to get food.

Due to poaching and illegal hunting, Siberian tigers take to the roads, waiting for people to give them something to eat. But this affects all animals: those who suffer from hunger and those who need to adapt to new living conditions. Forest destruction is another global problem that threatens the world.

Deforestation of forests in Brazil

Studies indicate that if logging continues at this rate, the world’s forests will be destroyed within a century. Scientists predict that by the year 2040 they could disappear.

Unprecedented industrial development means that 85% of the world’s population breathes polluted air.

In the United States alone in 2017, there were 66,113 fires. In its entirety, the wildfire destroyed 9.8 million hectares of land. It should be noted that 90% of forest fires occur due to the wrong handling of fire by people.

The change in the chemical composition of the atmosphere causes the formation of acid rain that poisons the environment, polluting land and water.

According to forecasts, in the year 2030, the Earth’s population will reach 9 billion people. Imagine that almost 100 years ago, in 1927, the population was 2 billion people, less than a third.

The huge slick tide, the result of an oil rig explosion in 2010

Every year, in the seas of the world, more than 12 million tons of oil are spilled, resulting from the drilling of oil wells. Approximately 25% of marine waters are covered by an oily layer of different thicknesses. In 2010, due to the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform, about a thousand tons of oil ended up in the sea. For the elimination of the substance, the company British Petroleum spent a billion dollars, but, despite all the efforts, the specialists managed to eliminate only 75% of the combustible material.

This photo of a seahorse with a cotton swab pretty much describes the state of the ocean today.

Annually, more than 260 million tons of plastic enter the ocean waters. This results in the formation of entire continents of plastic. The largest of them is in the Pacific Ocean, occupying almost 10% of its surface.

You can help

We know that all these problems are not simple to solve. The solution involves the joint effort of governments, NGOs, companies and people.

You can help by doing the simplest things: driving less by car (using public transport, walking short distances or going by bicycle) and taking small actions such as not using plastic bags when you go shopping in a supermarket. Want to do a little more? How about picking up trash from a beach or a waterfall or giving your neighbor a ride? Or teach children notions of good environmental behavior?

It may seem like little, but each attitude makes a difference.
