Actors and actresses are real stars, that’s a fact. But, in front of the cameras, they are people subject to a contract with a relationship of subordination. And, behind the scenes, not everything is so idyllic, despite having the privileges of big celebrities. Bad working conditions, disagreements over interpretation methods, accidents at work, etc., there are several reasons why some actors terminate their contracts.
At the awesome.club we are always looking for new stories and preparing anecdotes about some celebrities involving the decision to leave certain films.
1. Penélope Cruz in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

2. Jesus Adams Foster in The Fosters: Foster Family
ABC Family’s Quebec series, The Fosters: Foster Family was taping its 3rd season when one of its main actors, Jake T. Austin (Jesus Adams Foster) decided not to continue. The reason? He didn’t think he would have enough time for other projects. Who replaced him was Noah Centineo, unknown until that moment.
3. Claire Kyle in Me, My Mistress and the Kids
If you watched the series Me, the Mistress and the Children, maybe you didn’t understand why Jazz Raycole, in the role of Claire Kyle in the 1st season, abandoned filming. It seems that the mother of the young actress did not agree with the new themes addressed by the director. Who took over was Jennifer Freeman, grateful for the opportunity.
4. Chris D’Elia in Army of the Dead: Las Vegas
This zombie movie recently came out on the Netflix platform, in May 2021. Chris D’Elia had just started playing the role of a helicopter pilot, when some court scandals knocked on his door. He was then replaced by Tig Notaro. However, taking into account that the filming was done during the pandemic, the director decided to resume the scenes with Tig Notaro with a green background, without equipment.
5. James Purefoy in V for Vendetta
This movie classic became famous for the clothes worn by its main character. As you can imagine, wearing the mask while filming was extremely difficult. That’s why James Purefoy refused to continue after six weeks of filming, understanding that he should wear the mask until the end. Hugo Weaving replaced him.
6. Ruby Rose on Batwoman
The Batwoman series has been broadcast since 2019 with the participation of actress Ruby Rose. Sadly, fans of her were surprised to discover that the character’s face had drastically changed in Season 2. We don’t know if it was the actress who decided to leave the set, due to the difficult shooting conditions, or if she was fired. Anyway, from now on, the bat lady will be played by Javicia Leslie.
7. Samantha Morton or the artificial intelligence in Her
In this sci-fi film, a divorced author falls in love with the female voice of his OS1 operating system. The setting is quite avant-garde, but the director wanted to create a real connection between the actors. As he didn’t notice that between Samantha Morton and Joaquin Phoenix, he decided to replace the actress’s voice with Scarlett Johansson’s.
8. Bobby Draper in Mad Men
This series, which takes place in the 1960s in the United States, focuses on Don Draper, director of an advertising agency. Don has a son, Bobby Draper, and none of the fans can really understand who plays this character: Mason Vale Cotton, Maxwell Huckabee, Aaron Hart or Jared S. Gilmore.

10. Robert Downey Jr. in Gravity
Robert Downey Jr. is known for improvising most of his roles. Initially, he was supposed to be Sandra Bullock’s setmate. However, things did not go as planned. In fact, the film Gravity required the use of very specific technologies to record certain scenes. Therefore, the director preferred George Clooney, as it was easier to deal with his personality during filming.
11. Heath Ledger in The Imagination of Dr. Parnassus
Another unfortunate passing story: Heath Ledger. Director Terry Gilliam decided to keep the scenes already shot, mainly because he had already finished filming all the real-world scenes. What was his idea? Using other actors for scenes in the imaginary world: Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell. An excellent and ingenious game of waist.
12. Ryan Gosling in Heaven’s Eyes
As difficult as it may seem, Ryan Gosling was rejected because of his physique. In fact, on the set of Um Olhar do Paraíso, the director discovered that he was too overweight to take on the role he had been assigned. Mark Wahlberg, who replaced him, certainly had to keep himself in line after that.
