11 soap opera actors told backstage situations that many of us would not even imagine

When we’re in front of the television watching our favorite soap opera, we rarely think about the work behind the camera, do we? The better the story and production, the less we remember that it is a fiction, interpreted by people of flesh and blood who, like us, go through some perrengues and unexpected events during their work.

The success of the soap opera Fina Estampa was the result of a combination of a great cast and a production based on the basic principles of dramaturgy, according to the author of the work. But there is no denying that a good part of it has to do with the talent and charisma of actress Lilia Cabral, who gave life to Grizelda, or Pereirão.

Lilia’s delivery was so intense that she said in an interview that she practically stopped her personal life to dedicate herself to the character. Even physically, as the actress stopped shaving and painted her mustache to make the nickname “woman with a mustache” stand out in front of the screens.

Claudia Ohana had, in the soap opera Vamp, great challenges — how to maintain her diction with her prosthetic teeth. But she also had the opportunity to play opposite one of the greatest Brazilian actors, Ney Latorraca. And it was through this partnership that the actress realized that she needed to change the way of interpreting Natasha, the vampire rocker in the plot.

Initially, she was inspired by the character Mortícia, from Família Adams, but “Ney started making fun of being a vampire, playing with his teeth… Then I thought: ‘Oops, it’s something else!’ And I went from Mortícia Adams to Penélope Charmosa dark”, recalled the actress.

Sol’s perrengues to cross the border in search of the American dream were not limited to the character, played by Deborah Secco, in America. In an interview, the actress recalled that, during the recording of the crossing, the illuminator bumped into a cactus with equipment — and the “little hairs” of the plant flew everywhere, reaching the blanket she used in the scenes.

When she had first wrapped herself in the blanket, the little thorns had begun to sting and burn. She had to take off all her clothes to get rid of them. Even so, every time they resumed filming with that little blanket, the actress scratched herself all over.

Actress Maria Padilha, who lived Dinorá in O Cravo e a Rosa, had a great challenge when it came to composing and interpreting her character. That’s because the telenovela’s director asked her to bring to the scenes all the mannerisms of none other than Greta Garbo, icon of silent cinema — and talkies too!

So, in addition to dance and costume classes, offered to the entire cast, Maria Padilha also spent hours on end connected to DVDs with films of the muse, to capture every detail of the actress’s gestures and expressions.

Another actress who shone in O Cravo e a Rosa was Drica Moraes, who has very fun memories of the production. The main one, according to her in an interview, was acting with the pig Lindinha. The actress recalled that “at the beginning of the recording I was a cute little pig. But at the end a little boar enters the studio”. The little pig had become an adult and, let’s say, without very good manners.

Actress and presenter Carolina Ferraz lived Tereza, in Além do Horizonte. In the plot, she was Marlon’s aunt, Rodrigo Simas’ character. And isn’t it that the actress tried to take the kinship with the boy off the screen?

At the time, Carolina tried to play cupid and join her daughter Valentina, then 18 years old, and her co-star, but it didn’t happen… Lucky for us! So we could witness the boy’s love story with actress Agatha Moreira.

Despite her young age, child actress Sofia Budke already has outstanding work on television and was given the mission to play the same character as Larissa Manoela, in Além da Ilusion. She is the one who gave life to Isadora as a child. Larissa is the inspiration of the little actress, who confessed to being moved by acting with an idol.

In addition to overcoming emotion to maintain concentration on the scene, the girl still had to go through some changes, and used colored contact lenses. That’s because Larissa has green eyes and Sofia’s are brown.

As Madeleine, in Pantanal, Bruna Linzmeyer faced more than the challenge of memorizing texts, common to every actor. With hair extensions — and discolored strands, she couldn’t wash them in the water that supplied the location of the recordings, as she ran the risk of changing the color and texture.

Therefore, I had to take a bucket bath to wash my locks in mineral water. The gallon became a confirmed presence in the bathroom stall throughout Bruna’s stay in the Pantanal, as she made a point of showing in a video on her social media.

If you think that only Bruna Linzmeyer had problems during the Pantanal recordings, you will be disappointed. Actress Alanis Guillen, who plays Juma, didn’t handle the local fauna well! She even missed a day of recording because she was “devoured” by mosquitoes, according to her co-star, singer Guito, on Instagram.

And those who are veterans already know how to escape the perrengues, don’t they? To move from one recording to another, the Pantanal team went through many gates and the team took turns opening and closing them. Actress Juliana Paes revealed that, in order not to have to get out of the car, there were those who used the trick of going to the recordings in flip-flops.

Juliana was also the one who starred in a scene worthy of a suspense movie. During the filming of a scene where she was floating in the river, she was visited by an alligator. While she was submerged without realizing anything, she only saw the production screaming to get out of the water soon.

And since the subject is water, this curiosity is about José Alfredo’s dive in a creek on Mount Roraima, in the telenovela Império. In the scene, Alexandre Nero would do some shots going into the water. The sequence, in which the commander swam naked in the waters of Monte, would be performed by a stuntman.

But, when diving, the boy was unable to follow the scene due to the very low temperature of the water. “He stopped, paralyzed and almost passed out because of how cold it was,” said the actor. And that’s how Nero became his stunt double.
