11 Habits of Adolescence That Cause Problems in Adulthood

In our 20s, many of us are not worried and don’t care much about the future. But it is at age 30 that many of the fundamental behavioral models are established. They are the ones who will determine how our lives will be in 10 or 20 years. Some of these models are downright harmful, and around the age of 30, we finally start to understand them. But, unfortunately, getting rid of them is not so easy.

O awesome.club made a list of the bad habits that complicate the lives of many who are approaching 30 and found a useful analogue for each of them, so that it is easier to replace them.

1. Go out every night

In adolescence, many reconcile study and parties. But the study season ends, while the habit of going out remains. And if, as a young person, it’s easy to stay up all night, go to college with a hangover, be late for work or even lose the day, without it seeming so serious, in adulthood things change. The next morning, after the parties, the person feels worse and worse, while the pleasure that these walks give decreases with the passage of time.

How can you change: instead of going to bars and clubs with colleagues or casual acquaintances, spend more time with your real friends. These meetings may be less frequent, due to each other’s commitments, but they will be more interesting and meaningful. Think of something special or visit a new place. Psychologists have shown that spending time with friends and experiencing new emotions are necessary components of being happy.

2. Spend all the money

At age 30, many are starting to earn a good amount of money, and the first impulse is to spend it on something they’ve always wanted but couldn’t afford. As a result, people stuff themselves with unnecessary things and gadgets, or spend money on dinner in expensive restaurants, instead of saving for something really useful. At the end of the month, there is no money left, and sometimes you even have to borrow it.

How can you change: establish priorities and decide what is really needed. A trip or course will bring more satisfaction and benefits than cosmetics or an unhealthy lunch away from home. Research on the ways to save and choose the one that suits you best.

3. Follow fashion

In our 20s, we like to dress attractively and follow trends. We often spend large amounts of money on clothes, because we regularly find interesting models and items of all kinds. If a large part of your budget is still spent on clothes and accessories, it’s time to review your habits.

How is it possible to change🇧🇷 find your own style. Rather than buying everything you like, determine what suits you best and choose colors and clothing designs that fit well and are comfortable. Creating your own look is more interesting than looking for new meaningless trends. Moreover, at this age, we already know exactly which things from the new collections fit well with our lifestyle and which ones are not even worth it.

4. Clinging to Old Friendships

At 20, there are many people around us: we still hang out with our classmates, we are friends with many of them and, especially if we live in a republic, we spend more time with friends than with our own family. But the study season ends and people start to have different interests and goals. People used to living surrounded by
friends can feel uncomfortable and lonely because the amount of company inevitably decreases.

How can you change: you have to accept the fact that the only thing that brought you together with many people was just study and shared housing. But it is possible to find new friends with whom you will have more things in common at work, on courses or at a club. And don’t worry: some of the old friends will stick by you.

5. Ignore the daily routine

At the age of 20, we can calmly go to bed at 2 am and wake up at 7 am. Over time, the schedule becomes more complicated, but the routine we were used to is not going anywhere. As a result, it’s harder to wake up on time, we’re late for work and appointments, and we feel tired throughout the day.

How can you change: identify habits that change the daily routine, such as watching series at night or disconnecting from social networks. Replace them with useful but enjoyable things: reading books instead of surfing the web before going to bed, and watching series only on weekends. Do an analysis of what time is more comfortable and healthy to sleep and wake up and try to maintain this routine.

6. Trust metabolism

At the age of 20, many do not need to make special efforts to be in shape. But with age, metabolism slows down. If you are used to overeating, stuffing yourself with fast food and lead a sedentary lifestyle, these good genes will not save you from being overweight in the future.

How can you change: adjust the feeding regime. It is not necessary to limit food. Instead, choose healthy dishes that you enjoy. Learn how to cook your favorite dishes that are less than healthy: it’s much better to eat a homemade hamburger than a McDonald’s. Find a sport that interests you, or at least start hiking.

7. Buy cheap alcohol

When we are young, it is common for us to get used to choosing alcoholic beverages for their value and not for their quality. But in the future, this kind of savings can result in large expenses for medicines and even hospital trips. The easiest and best thing is to stop drinking🇧🇷 But if you’re not ready to take such a drastic step, at least choose better quality alcoholic beverages the next time you go to the supermarket.

How can you change: learn about your favorite alcoholic drink or about beverages in general. For example, if you like wine, go to tastings and try new varieties rather than just drinking any type when you’re with friends. In this way, it is possible to cultivate a taste for good alcohol and learn to be moderate. Even better than that is to look for an interesting hobby that will replace this habit.

8. Not learning to cook

When we live alone, it is much more comfortable to eat at nearby restaurants or order food from the company. The big problem is that keeping regular meals out of the house consumes a large part of the budget and is not good for health.

How can you change: learn to cook some simple and tasty dishes that don’t take up a lot of time, but that you and the people you live with will enjoy. Choose a dish that will be your “signature” and master the art of cooking it perfectly. Perhaps, years from now, your grandchildren will always ask you to cook dinner.

9. Ignore the checkup annual doctor

Not everyone is used to visiting the doctor from childhood. Many really don’t even like the idea of consulting. Most people’s thinking seems to be, “If nothing hurts, there seems to be no problem.” Thus, the medical appointment is postponed for months and years, until, perhaps, a problem becomes serious. Do you think you don’t have any health problems? It may be a long time since you’ve had an exam.

How can you change: make a habit of taking care of your health. Just develop it. Just as you got used to brushing your teeth twice a day, you should get used to going to the dentist every six months and having a medical checkup once a year to ensure your health is always in order. Someday you’ll thank yourself for developing this routine.

10. Spending hours on dating sites

Many start thinking about having a family when they approach their 30s. Some even panic if they aren’t already dating. Because of this, some people spend whole days on dating sites or apps, chatting and exchanging photos with a bunch of people and going on dates non-stop. At some point this starts to become a routine, but sometimes true love just doesn’t “come along”.

How can you change: in an informal setting or in a casual conversation it is much easier to find someone willing to enter into a relationship than at dinner with a stranger. Go out more often, meet and talk to people who have things in common with you. If you have many hobbies, interests and pastimes, the chances of finding a partner will be greater than spending months on a dating site.

11. Live life

It’s normal to get a part-time job when you’re 20 years old. But continuing in that same job when close to 30 can be dangerous. It is unlikely that your dream employer will be delighted that you have not yet committed to anything serious. So it’s time to start thinking.

How can you change: look for something you love to do. Once you find what interests you, take a path in that direction: look for courses and training, internships and other opportunities. Thus, in a few years you will become a coveted and well-paid specialist in your field, and you will enjoy your work very much.

Everyone is different, but there are bad habits that almost all of us develop before reaching our 30s. And you, what habits of youth would you like to get rid of?
