10 Theories about the Harry Potter universe that managed to turn our favorite story upside down

Fans of the adventures of Harry Potter are in luck: in her books Joanne Rowling not only created a new magical universe, but also opened the space for the imagination of her admirers. Sometimes, their unpublished theories are confirmed by the writer herself, and then the much-loved story begins to gain more and more unexpected details.

We, from awesome.clubwe decided to present to our readers some of these hypotheses that reveal the really surprising details of the famous saga.

1. Harry Potter is a distant relative of Godric Gryffindor

In the second part of the saga, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the protagonist was accused of being a descendant of Salazar Slytherin due to his ability to communicate with snakes. However, the reality can be very different: according to a theory of the fans of the franchise, Harry Potter is not the heir of Slytherin, but of Godric Gryffindor. The hypothesis is supported by the fact that “the boy who lived” ended up defeating the true heir of Slytherin, Tom Riddle, thus putting an end to the long conflict between the founders of Hogwarts.

2. Mary Poppins also attended Hogwarts

3. Hagrid received Aragog from Newt Scamander

In the book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the giant spider Aragog tells Harry Potter that he arrived from a faraway land hidden in a traveler’s pocket. We know that Newt Scamander returns to Hogwarts after his travels across five continents, during which the magizoologist studied, collected and protected fantastic beasts. If so, it’s possible that in future Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequels we might discover the circumstances under which Newt gave Aragog to Hagrid.

4. Hagrid has few happy memories

In one of the interviews, Joanne Rowling confessed that Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts before learning the Patronus charm. Despite the writer’s statement, fans have suggested that there’s an even sadder reason for Hagrid’s lack of a personal protector: the keeper of the Hogwarts Keys and Grounds simply doesn’t have enough happy memories to conjure him.

5. Professor Trelawney was not a charlatan

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Professor Sybill Trelawney tells Harry Potter that his birthday is in the middle of winter. Then the Divination teacher was ridiculed by the students of Hogwarts, as everyone knew that “the boy who lived” was born in the summer.

However, the birthday of Tom Riddle, the future Voldemort, is December 31st. Perhaps the teacher managed to perceive a piece of her soul in Harry Potter? If so, Dumbledore made no mistake in hiring her.

6. Hagrid Can’t Have Children

7. Professor Gilderoy Lockhart was hired as a joke

Hiring the narcissistic professor could be called one of Dumbledore’s biggest mistakes. However, fans managed to justify the attitude of the brilliant headmaster of Hogwarts. They explain that Albus Dumbledore hired Gilderoy Lockhart specifically to reveal to the world the true face of this Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. We all know what happened after all: at the first unexpected difficulties Gilderoy shows his cowardly nature, and then his brilliant career collapses completely.

8. Credence is Professor Snape’s grandfather

Initially, fans of the saga saw Credence Barebone as Voldemort’s father, and later as Professor Snape’s maternal grandfather. Severus Snape is the offspring of a wizard and a muggle. His mother, Eileen Prince, was born in the 1930s, and as the events of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them take place in 1926, Credence really could be the girl’s father.

9. Wizards have reasons to hide from Muggles

The question of why wizards are forced to hide from Muggles remains one of the most important in the famous saga. Their power allows witches to rule the world, but for some reason they remain in the shadows.

According to one of the fan theories, wizards and muggles were once involved in a conflict in which the former lost. The hypothesis is supported by the fact that at the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the Ministry of Magic warns the Prime Minister of British Muggles about the entry into their country of a dragon. Maybe muggles aren’t as simple as we thought.

10. Maybe Hermione is Harry’s sister

Between Harry and Hermione there has always been an affectionate relationship, and readers might even think that the characters behave like siblings. There is a theory that James and Lily Potter actually had two children: a boy and a girl. For some reason, the girl was adopted by the Granger family, who raised the young witch as their own daughter.

If the theory is correct, it becomes clear why Hermione always protects Harry, and there was never any hint of romance between the characters.
