10 simple and homemade ways to leave shoes white and clean

Despite being a basic item that rarely goes out of style, white sneakers have a downside: they get dirty and dark easily and often end up forgotten in the back of the closet. So that this does not happen, there are some practical tips that, in addition to making the fabric much whiter, do not damage the material.

Today the incredible.club brings ten tricks that will leave your sneakers and shoes like the day they were bought.

1. Baking soda and vinegar

To return white to your favorite shoe, you don’t need expensive and hard-to-get products, just a little baking soda and white vinegar. Both ingredients are great for getting rid of dark, ingrained stains on fabric.

To begin with, mix 100 ml of white vinegar and six tablespoons of baking soda. With the help of a brush, apply the mixture to the shoe and rub both the fabric part and the sole. Leave for 30 minutes and then remove everything with a little water.

In addition to effective whitening, the solution helps to eliminate any bad smells produced by bacteria accumulated inside.

2. Coarse salt and milk

When sneakers or shoes acquire a yellow tint, it means that the time has come for a deeper cleaning, especially to recover the initial color. For this, you just need to mix half a cup of coarse salt with 1 liter of milk in a large pot.

Dip the shoes in the mixture and leave for at least three hours to achieve the desired effect. Then, scrub with a brush, water and soap to remove stains embedded in the fabric, rinse and let it dry in the open air.

3. Toothpaste

Some shoes have a very delicate fabric and need less aggressive cleaning and bleaching methods.

A great trick to get your shoes back to white is to use toothpaste and an old toothbrush. Rub until you remove all the stains and the darkest parts, and don’t forget the dirt that usually accumulates in the sole region.

To remove the toothpaste, just use a damp cloth. With a little patience, the end result is impeccable.

4. Coarse salt and soapy water

If you don’t have a lot of free time to whiten your shoes that were abandoned in the closet, don’t worry, any type of soap you have at home and a little rock salt are enough to eliminate dark spots.

To begin with, rub the shoes while they are still dry to remove dirt from the fabric; then rub with at least 150 g of coarse salt and leave for at least one hour.

Then wash the shoes with cold water and liquid soap to remove dirt and salt. It is important that you also clean the insoles, thus eliminating the bacteria that accumulate with daily use.

5. Ammonia to whiten shoes effectively

If you’ve tried different tricks, but the stains on your shoes are very difficult to remove, it’s time to use ammonia.

They say this is one of the most efficient procedures to make a shoe whiter. However, it is important to be careful with the chemical compounds in this product.

To carry out cleaning, just dilute a small spoonful of ammonia in 1 liter of water. If you want, you can also add a little detergent to the mixture. Place the shoes in the mixture and rub until the stains are gone. Then, soak the shoes in water and let them air dry for at least 24 hours, until the strong smell disappears.

6. Baking soda and detergent

To clean your white fabric shoes well, it is important to remove the laces. Both the shoe and the laces must be placed in the mixture.

In a large basin put plenty of water and completely wet the shoe and shoelace. It is important that the water is not hot so as not to further set the stains on the fabric.

When the fabric is wet, mix the same amount of bicarbonate and detergent in another pot and, with the help of a brush, scrub the shoes paying special attention to the darkest areas.

To remove excess soap, rinse with plenty of water or wash in the machine.

7. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice, often used to eliminate unwanted stains and odors in the home, is also a good option for whitening shoes with dirt stains.

To do this, just cut a lemon in half and use it to rub. It is important to give more prominence to regions with darker spots.

Remove the dirt and lemon with plenty of water, let it dry and see the whitening effect.

8. Eraser to remove stains

For leather, synthetic or leather shoes that are stained, either because of use or because they touched a dirty part, just use a simple rubber, like the ones we use at school.

You will need a little patience, but the result is quite rewarding. And you can also use the rubber to clean the side of the sole, which usually gets dirty too.

9. The classic Marseille soap to whiten shoes

10. Tile cleaner

Fabric or leather shoes get dirty easily, so it’s recommended to use different products to make them whiter. A very effective way is to use a tile cleaner and brush.

After removing excess sand from the soles, dampen the fabric, add tile cleaner and scrub with a brush until foaming. Remove excess with plenty of water.

It’s important to put it to dry in the shade, as the sun can leave the shoe with a yellowish tone.
