It is no accident that Lady Diana was affectionately called the “People’s Princess”: she was loved, perhaps more than the entire royal family, and many people to this day admire her beauty and strength. However, even after so many years of her departure, the princess’ personality is still a topic of discussion, and it’s no secret that her true emotions, her pain and her sadness were often hidden behind a dazzling smile.
we, from awesome.clubwe looked at some photos of Lady Di and, based on body language studies, we learned a little more about her than the articles and interviews tell us.
Diana loved being a mother
One of the ways to show love for your children is physical contact. And, in the photos, Diana always appears holding the then-little William and Harry by the hands or placing her hands on their shoulders. She arranged the boys’ clothes and, when she spoke, squatted down to the children’s level. According to body language experts, this is one of the ways to show equality between you and your child.
Cared for little ones even in safe places
Diana’s posture in the photo above demonstrates her desire to protect children: she keeps her children close and proves to be a protector of her family. Even though the place seems safe and there is nothing to worry about, the princess looks a little tense.
Diana respected her children’s personal space, but showed that she was always around.
At official events, Diana did not hug her children. After all, in these situations, her feelings were not open to the public. She allowed them to walk ahead and feel independent, but she always made it clear that she was around and supportive. Cameras repeatedly captured heartbreaking moments as Diana gently touched her children with her fingertips.
From the start, Charles was more of a friend than a lover.
During their first interview together after the engagement announcement, Diana and Charles don’t seem to be in love. They are clearly uncomfortable appearing together in public. At the groom’s touch, Diana becomes shy and shrugs her shoulders and Charles pats her on the shoulders. The gesture is more appropriate for a friend than a boyfriend.
When talking about love, Diana seems insecure
Charles seems much calmer when talking about his engagement to Diana. She, in turn, bites her lip, looks down or to the side throughout the interview and clearly feels uncomfortable. It was in this interview that Charles uttered his famous line that left Diana visibly upset. The journalist asked if the couple were really in love; Diana replied, “Of course!” and Charles added: “Whatever that means…”. After those words, Diana’s smile faded and she dropped her eyes.
Even at the wedding ceremony, everyone was in their own thoughts
A royal wedding is a grandiose event and all guests, especially the bride and groom, must follow protocol. But two happy and in love people will have a moment to smile at each other or hold hands. Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding photos show much more sincerity and love than those of Diana and Charles on their wedding day.
In most of the photos, the future spouses look in different directions, and even when Charles’ attention is on Diana (when he kisses her hand or looks at her), she doesn’t reciprocate, focusing on something else. The couple looks tense and Charles continues to try to get Diana’s attention, but to no avail.
In the famous photo of the kiss, we can see that Diana is estranged from Charles; she has to crane her neck to reach it. Both hands are down and not touching at all.
The couple’s photos show the estrangement between the spouses
Diana and Charles followed the rules of royal protocol, which disapproves of public displays of affection. However, on the other hand, they made no attempt to hide when they were bad with each other: in some photos, either Diana intertwines her fingers as if she doesn’t want Charles to hold her hand or the prince crosses his arms. Or worse, they both hide their hands behind their backs. Many images show the couple clearly apart. Even on their royal tour of Canada, which Diana and Charles embarked on to show that their marriage was okay, they continued to ignore each other at public events.
The birth of the children also did not bring the couple closer.
In joint photos of Diana and Charles with then-little Prince William, Charles is almost always a little distant. He often folds his hands in his lap instead of reaching out to his family or playing the game. For example, in the image above, the son is holding his father’s leg, but Charles is deep in thought. Diana, on the other hand, is completely absorbed in her son, not paying attention to her husband.
But despite everything, Diana had tender feelings for Charles.
There are many photos that show Diana looking sad and depressed on her honeymoon. But there are also some that prove that she was really in love. The image above was taken during Charles and Diana’s cruise across the Mediterranean Sea. The princess’s genuine smile and flirtatious posture show that she is happy.
