10+ MasterChef Brazil Behind-the-Scenes Revelations You Didn’t Expect

Only those who are really fans of MasterChef Brasil, from TV Band, know how much more this program is than a simple reality of gastronomy. The attraction transforms not only the contestants’ lives, but also the spectators who, every week, learn new cooking tips and become more involved in the participants’ stories.

O reality was launched in 2014 in Brazil, with chefs Erick Jacquin, Paola Carosella and Henrique Fogaça as judges. Since then, the program has served more than 7,000 dishes and more than 100 renowned chefs have made special appearances.

O awesome.club gathered 11 curious facts about the backstage of MasterChef Brasil to show that the program goes far beyond what is shown in front of the cameras.

1. Participants had to jump on a trampoline to record the opening of MasterChef 2019

This year, contestants had to jump on a trampoline to record the show’s opening. Imaculada, for example, said that this was a “tense” moment for her.

“I am very clumsy and my biggest fear was falling. It was a trampoline and I don’t have much balance”, said the paulistana.

She said that, because she was able to successfully perform the jump, she struck a “power woman” pose, which ended up in the show’s opening.

2. Participants get scolded for wasting food

3. Each recording day lasts an average of 12 hours

The MarterChef routine is not easy at all. Contestant Nayane, who participated in the fourth edition of the reality show, revealed that each recording day lasts about 12 hours. Sometimes even more.

“I loved being in the dressing room, because we spent a lot of time there, recording. We usually arrive around 7 am and leave at 7 pm, sometimes at 10 pm. Is well, well, tiring. It’s just a lot of fun!”, revealed the brasiliense.

4. Participants’ cell phones are confiscated

Did you know that participants’ cell phones are confiscated by the Band team during the recording of the program? They are even forbidden to take backstage photos. Despite the rule, Yuko and Nayane revealed that they even took a picture at the station’s studios and the production asked them to delete it.

“And I didn’t delete it, but I will never post. Okay, production?”, Nayane joked.

5. Participants have no contact with the judges outside of the recordings

If you think that contestants receive numerous suggestions from the judges off-camera, know that it is quite the opposite. Helton, for example, revealed that they have “zero contact” with chefs Erick Jacquin, Henrique Fogaça and Paola Carosella backstage.

6. Ana Paula Padrão does not know in advance who won the program

During the first edition of MasterChef Professionals, in 2016, presenter Ana Paula Padrão said that she likes to know who won the program only along with the public.

“I make a point of not knowing. In the first MasterChefs, the decision was made by Jacquin, Fogaça and Paola, in addition to the director and myself, in the same room. And I, at the time of decision, left. I always wanted to go out. I do not want to know. I never wanted to know who the winner was,” he said.

7. Nicknames are prohibited

Outside of MasterChef, former reality show contestant Clarisse Duarte is called Claire, as she doesn’t like her real name. However, the production of the program prohibits the use of nicknames inside.

“I didn’t like being called Clarisse, but on the show it’s obligatory. You cannot use nicknames. That’s why Lubyanka was also Lubyanka, not Lubi. And she didn’t like it either,” Clarisse said.

8. The “fights” for chairs in the dressing room

Imagine a “tiny” dressing room for 21 people. Now, imagine that there were no chairs for everyone. According to Michele Crispim and Vitor Bourguignon, who participated in MasterChef 4, this created great confusion behind the scenes. But Vitor always got the better of him.

“The sofa was fought over tooth and nail by everyone, not just me. But let’s say I had a certain trickery. I would see the sofa giving soup there and I would run ahead and take it”, said Vitor.

“Run away, people. He didn’t even get up to go to the bathroom. He was right there on that couch. It stuck and no one took it off,” Michele added.

9. What really happens in the “between doors”

After the dressing room, the production took the participants to the “between doors”: a space that is between the door that faces the street and the door of the recording studio. That’s where the show’s staff would put the microphones and aprons on them, for example. Competitors spent a lot of time at this location. “It seems like an eternity”, revealed Michele Crispim.

“We were there waiting, with that fear of what would come ahead, of what tests we will face. Inside that business there… it was religion, it was dancing, it was dread. Each one took it in a different way. Sometimes I joined the dance, always to try to take the pressure off my head, but it’s no use”, said Vitor Bourguignon.

10. Food donation

A very cool curiosity is that all the food that was not used by the participants during the recording is donated. In MasterChef’s five years, the program has donated more than 20 tons of food.

11. That’s a lot of food!

At the beginning of this post, we said that the participants who went through the MasterChef Brasil editions, from 2014 to 2019, have already served more than 7 thousand dishes. So here are some curious numbers about the amount of food used in these five years of the program:

800 kilos of butter 2,500 liters of milk 30,000 eggs 😱 1,500 kilos of sugar
