10 Characters that were played by different actors in the same movie (and we didn’t realize it)

Many actors, especially in action movies, rely on stunt doubles. This is a relatively well-known fact. But sometimes it happens that an actor cannot continue working on the production of a certain film and is replaced by the rest of the work. At these times, the support team has to go out of their way to ensure that the replacement is as similar as possible to the original artist, often resorting to the most incredible special effects and makeup tricks.

The team of incredible.club recalls 10 cases in which this type of substitution took place — often without the spectators noticing. Check out!

Lavender Brown (Kathleen Cauley, Jennifer Smith and Jessie Cave) — Saga Harry Potter

Lavender Brown was a classmate of Harry Potter. She was featured in the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princein which, played by Jessie Cave, she was the love of Ron Weasley.

Also known as Lavender, she appeared in other parts of the saga, but her role became episodic. In the second part, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secretswas interpreted by Kathleen Cauley, and in the third, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabanby Jennifer Smith.

Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford and Vic Armstrong) — Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

During the filming of the fight scene with an assassin in the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Harrison Ford injured his back. As a result, he had to fly to Los Angeles and undergo surgery. So Steven Spielberg and the film crew had to turn to Vic Armstrong, Ford’s regular stunt double in that franchise. Their appearance and movements were so similar to the actor that everyone used to confuse them. Most of the fight and chase scenes were filmed with Vic and Ford only appeared in later shot close-ups.

Tyler Winklevoss (Armie Hammer and Josh Pence) — Arsocial network

Twin characters can be played by real twin actors or by a single actor. But there is a third situation. And that’s what happened in The social network, film that portrays the history of Facebook. David Fincher, the director, was not convinced with any of these options and, for the roles of the brothers Cameron and Tyler, he chose Armie Hammer and Josh Pence.

The closest thing to the real brothers was Hammer. So, he played Cameron. Tyler was played by Pence. Well, at least part of it. In a masterful job of computer graphics, the visual effects team managed, after filming the scenes, to place Hammer’s face on Pence’s body — who, as we said, played the role of Tyler. Thus, the two faces that appear in the feature are Hammer’s.

George McFly (Crispin Glover and Jeffrey Weissman) — of vback to the future II

The role of George McFly, Marty’s father in the first part of the film Back to the future, brought Crispin Glover great popularity. So when he was asked to be in the sequel, he simply demanded the same pay as Michael J. Fox, the lead actor. However, the producers could not accept his conditions and he decided not to participate in the filming. Therefore, the George McFly of the second film was played by Jeffrey Weissman. Footage of Glover that had been captured for the first film was also used.

Director Robert Zemeckis tried to shoot the feature in such a way that the audience would not notice the substitution. He cut the script, used the archival Glover materials we mentioned, and resorted to gimmicks (for example, George McFly is upside down in the cameo scene).

When the film was released, Glover sued the producers and received damages equivalent to the requested fee. After that, the Film Actor’s Guild, a sort of actor’s union, adopted new rules for the use of archival material.

Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane and Martin Bayfield) — Harry Potter Saga

Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid, is not very tall to be considered a giant. His height is 1.85 m, just above the average citizen — in the UK, the average height of men is 1.76 m. Therefore, in scenes where he had to be very high above the other characters, he was replaced by stuntman Martin Bayfield, whose height is 2.1 m.

Bayfield wore a mask that completely imitated the giant’s head, but for him, the filming process was very difficult: his costume was too heavy and too hot. The mask was cooled, but to make the actor feel more comfortable, the production team created a vest equipped with a system of pipes with cold water under the costume.

Fandral (Joshua Dallas and Zachary Levi) — Thor

In the movie Thor (the first in the saga), the role of Fandral should have been played by Zachary Levi. But as he was busy with the filming of the television series chuckwas replaced by Joshua Dallas.

When did work on the film begin? Thor the Dark World (the second in the trilogy), Dallas became the star of the television series era uma vez, and could no longer participate in the filming of the sequel. Fandral was played by Levi, who also participated in the third feature of the franchise, Thor: Ragnarok🇧🇷

Mandy Milkovich (Jane Levy and Emma Greenwell) — Shameless
