In Brazil, with the great plurality of beliefs and cultures, there is a large number of people who believe in Angels, however, most do not know that there are several species of these spiritual beings, their history and which people they rule. Thus, it is worth knowing a little more about the Seraphim angelbeing important to the heavenly world and occupying a prominent position in relation to God.

The Hierarchical Position of the Angel Seraphim

The Angels are considered according to the Bible as messengers of God, and the Seraphim Angel is highlighted in the angelic hierarchy, as he is very close to God, worshiping and respecting him.

Among the three great categories or hierarchies that have been established for the Angels, the Seraphim occupy the first, which refers to the Angels directly linked to divine matters, being available to glorify and obey God.

Thus, the Seraphim Angel has a prominent position in the celestial realm and is considered one of the oldest Angels. He is endowed with extreme wisdom and discernment.

Origin of the Angel Seraphim

Seraphim are considered as “fiery beings” or even as “fiery and flying serpents” and their name refers to the Hebrew word Seraf, which is translated with different meanings. Among them can be mentioned burning, burning, burning and fire, making clear the connection of his name with the power that this Angel possesses.

Some authors reported that the Seraphim Angel was not actually an Angel. This is because his name is not related to the words “Malak” and “Angelus”, which mean messenger and come from Hebrew and Greek, respectively.

Angel Seraphim Meaning

However, the following excerpt from Isaiah 6, 4-7 overturns this hypothesis, as it makes it clear that the Seraphim is an Angel, since he was able to communicate with the prophet.

“Then said I: Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell among a people of unclean lips; mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

But one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar; And with the coal he touched my mouth, and said:

Behold, this has touched your lips; and thine iniquity was taken away, and thy sin purged…”

Despite the biblical passage, there is still doubt about the true essence of the Seraphim. There are several who defend that seraphim cannot be considered Angels. The matter is open to various interpretations.

Depiction and Biblical Quotes of the Angel Seraphim

In most accounts the Angel Seraphim is described as a winged being and his most common image is associated with an Angel with six wings surrounded by fire. The fire, as we have seen, refers to the Hebrew origin of his name, while the six wings come from a passage in the sacred text, Isaiah 6, 2-4.

In the passage, it is reported that the seraphim use a pair of wings to cover their faces, one to cover their feet, and one to fly. Some studies indicate that the word “feet” refers to the genitals of Angels. Covering these parts of the body shows a sign of the Angels’ respect and submission to God.
