Certainly, Psalm 91 is one of the most prominent psalms in the Holy Bible. Even people who have never had contact with the Bible know at least one verse of this psalm. It is widely recognized for its strength and protective power. People all over the world praise and pray this psalm as if it were a prayer.

However, for you to enjoy the strength and protection that this wonderful psalm brings you, it is not enough just to read it repeatedly until you memorize it, it is necessary to understand what these words mean and express faith in them, being sure that God will hear your prayer and will attend to you. If you need strength to face challenges and protection in the midst of this chaotic world, Psalm 91 is for you.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty” (Ps. 91:1). The verse in question shows a secret place, his mind, his inner “I”. It is through your mind that you come into contact with God. In moments of prayer, praise, contemplation, it is in your secret place that you meet the Divine.

“To rest in the shadow of the Almighty” means to be protected by God. This is an eastern proverb where it is said that children who place themselves under the father’s shadow are constantly protected, this stretch indicates security. For this reason, he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High is protected.

“I will say of the Lord: He is my refuge and my fortress; he is my God, in him I will trust ”(Ps.91: 2). This is a verse that shows what is in the heart of the psalmist, that he has God as his refuge and strength. When you recite this verse, be sure that your protective Father will always be by your side, guiding and protecting you.

The trust you need to manifest towards God should be similar to that which a baby places in its mother, in the certainty that she will protect, care for, love and make it feel safe and comfortable. As you read this verse, strengthen your confidence in God’s love and care for you.

“Surely He will deliver you from the snare of the birdcatcher, and from the harmful pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will be safe, for his truth will be a shield and a defense” (Ps.91:3,4). The verses are easy to understand and their meaning is clear. Through them, God shows that he will deliver his children from all evil, be it illness, secular dangers, bad people, among others.

God will always take them under his protection, just as birds protect their young. As long as you allow yourself to be protected by God, He will give you His protection, however, the Eternal is someone who values our freedom of choice, so we need to seek His protection.

“He shall not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the destruction that rages at midday” (Ps.91:5,6). The biblical texts in question are quite significant. They show that we need to sleep with peace of mind, to enjoy a peaceful night and wake up with joy the next day.

The arrow that flies by day and the destruction that rages at noon symbolize the negative energy and bad thoughts we are subject to on a daily basis. The verses still mention other things, but the certainty we must have is that these evils and dangers cannot reach us when we ask for God’s protection.

“A thousand will fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but nothing will reach you” (Ps.91:7,8). Verses 7 and 8 of Psalm 91 indicate how you can gain strength, immunity of protection against any kind of evil. The secret is to be under God’s protection, it delivers you from various evils.

Whatever they are, robberies, illnesses, negative energies, accidents, if God is with you, you don’t need to worry, these evils will not reach you. However, this does not mean that from now on we must live a careless life, neglecting any kind of preventive measure, we must do our part.

“Because he has made the Lord his refuge, and the Most High his dwelling place, no evil shall overtake him, nor shall any plague come near his house” (Ps.91:9,10). From the moment you express faith, trust and believe in God’s promises in Psalm 91, you are making God your refuge.

Always carry with you the certainty that you are greatly loved by God and that He constantly guides and protects you. As long as you make the Most High your dwelling, your house, your place, be sure that He will protect you. With that in mind, you need not fear, no harm will come to you or your home.

“For He will charge His angels to protect you, to guard you in all ways. They will lead him by the hand, so that he will not trip over the stones. With his feet he will crush lions and snakes” (Ps.91: 11-13). Verses 11 and 12 present a God willing to protect his children and deliver them from all evil through His angels.

They are the ones who help us in our daily lives, alerting us to the dangers we are experiencing. Verse 13 shows that we must have God as our refuge. By doing this, you will be able to discern between good and evil and thus choose the best path. God will make you overflow with wisdom so that you can live free from all the evils of the world.

“When you call on me, I will answer you; I will be with him in times of trouble; I will set you free and honor you. I will give you the satisfaction of a long life, and I will demonstrate my salvation” (Ps.91:15,16). At the end of verse 16, God reinforces His commitment to protect us and assures us that He will stand by us in His infinite goodness.

God is omniscient. He can give us all the answers we need to follow the right path. He guarantees that if we make him our refuge and strength, we will have a prosperous and long life, in addition to being saved for eternal life.

In addition to Psalm 91, there are other psalms that talk about protection, whether from envy and enemies, a petition for deliverance, a plea for family protection, or some other reason. To learn more about other psalms of protection, check out the content below!

Family is one of the most precious assets we have. To maintain harmony in the home, ward off negative energies and make the family environment more pleasant for everyone, Psalm 5 is, among many other biblical psalms of protection, the one that will restore harmony within your home and protect your family.

Psalm 5:11, 12 says this: “But let all them that trust in you rejoice; let them rejoice forever, because you defend them; let those who love your name glory in you. For you, Lord, will bless the righteous: with favor you will surround him like a shield.” These verses bring hope, comfort, and the assurance that God blesses us.

Psalm 7:1,2 says this: “Lord my God, in you I trust; save me from all those who persecute me, and deliver me; Lest he tear my soul like a lion, tearing it to pieces, with no one to deliver.” These verses show the psalmist’s total surrender to God, trusting in his protection against all the bad plans that his enemies plotted against him.

“I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness, and sing praises to the name of the Lord Most High” (Ps.7:17), the psalm ends with the psalmist’s victory over his oppressors and his gratitude to God. Put your trust in God and He will give you victory over envy and every plan they are plotting against you.

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple” (Ps.27:4). In times of difficulty, David always sought refuge in God, because in Him David found the protection he needed and victory.

Being in the presence of God brings us peace and relief in the difficult moments of life. There is no other source that gives us this peace that passes all understanding. When we can’t handle the problems, we can take refuge in God and find the strength we need to overcome all obstacles.

“I will praise the LORD at all times; his praise will continually be in my mouth. My soul shall glory in the Lord; the meek will hear and be glad. Magnify the Lord with me; and together let us exalt his name. I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears” (Ps.34: 1-4).

This psalm shows the psalmist’s gratitude when he saw that his pleas for deliverance and protection were answered by God. He always answers our prayers, however irrelevant they may seem. We should rejoice, for “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in him” (Ps.34:7,8).

Psalm 35 is one of the best psalms in the bible for protection. Therefore, if you are in need of help dealing with your enemies or people who wish you harm for no apparent reason, meditate on this psalm and make the psalmist’s supplications your own.

“Plead, Lord, with those who plead with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take shield and wheel, and rise to my aid. Take away the spear and obstruct the way of those who pursue me; say to my soul: I am your salvation”. (Ps.35:1-3). Meditate on the pleas of the psalmist and know that when you cry out, God will hear you.
