Prayer to end and deliver the fast to Jesus Christ

Today we are going to teach you the prayer to end the fasting period

Lord God, Creator of the universe and my Creator! I want to thank you today for the wonderful order that you have established in the world. Thank you, because of this fertility to our Mother Earth, who produces all kinds of fruits. Thank you, for the food that is derived from the fruits of the earth.

Father, I am full of joy for all your creatures, for which I present to you my song of gratitude: Thank you for the need we have for bread, every day, and for the water that quenches thirst. Thank you, Father, for having created my body as it is, being able to use the food of the earth and, developing, serve You.

Thank you, for all those who discover and develop, with their work, new possibilities of life on earth. Thank you, for those who, having many goods, share with others.

Thank you, for those who, although fed up with wheat bread, are hungry for heavenly bread. Thank you, equally, for those who, today, do not have anything to eat, because I know that You will send them food, through people full of kindness and love.

Prayers for when you fast

Father, today I decided to fast. I do not despise, with that, the things that You created.

I don’t want to give them up, but I want to discover them again. I decided to fast, because your prophets fasted, because your Son fasted, your disciples and apostles also fasted. I decided to fast, because he fasted your servant, the blessed Virgin Mary. It was She who invited me to fast:

“Dear children: Today I am invited to start fasting with the heart. There are many people who fast, but only because others are fasting. It has become a habit, they do not want to stop. I ask the Parish to fast in gratitude “Because God allowed me to remain, for so long, in this parish. Dear children, fast and pray with your heart! Thank you for responding to my call.”

Father, I offer you this day of fasting. Through him, I want to hear your voice and live it with more determination. I wish, in the course of this day, to turn more to you, even though there are so many distracting things around me. By making this fast spontaneously, I pray for the men who are hungry and (carried away by it) cause turmoil in the world. I offer this fast, too, for peace in the world.

Wars happen because we are too attached to material goods and, because of them, we are inclined to slaughter. I offer you, O Father, this fast for all men who are slaves to material goods and despise the existence of any other good. Oh Father, let me see the gift that you give us with the practice of fasting.

I also ask forgiveness for the enormous blindness that took hold of me, since I did not give you thanks for the goods that I possess. Sorry for the misuse of my assets, because I exaggerated their value. I want, with today’s fasting, that You make me capable of correctly appreciating them as well as the people around me. Make me more sensitive to listen and abide by your word. May this fast lead me to grow in love for You and for my neighbor!

Father, today I decided to eat only bread, so that I can better understand the value of the Heavenly Bread, which is the presence of Your Son in the Eucharist. Make faith and trust grow in me!

Father, I want to fast and accept it, because in this way the desire to possess you will grow in me. With joy and gratitude, reflect on the words of your Son: “Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”. Father, make me poor in front of you! Grant me this grace, so that, through fasting, I understand how I need You. The desire to possess increases in me!

May my heart sigh for You, in the same way that the deer sighs for the water sources and the desert awaits the clouds that bring the rains. Through fasting, Father, may understanding and solidarity grow in favor of those who suffer from hunger and thirst and do not possess any good. It helps me to see the things that I have and that I do not need and, thus, by depriving myself of them, I go to the aid of my brothers…

Father, I ask you for the grace to understand that I am a pilgrim on this Earth. At the time of my passage to the other life, I will take nothing but the good works that I have practiced with love. May it remind me that, even though I own goods, nothing belongs to me, since I received everything to manage well… Father, give me the grace to make myself more humble and more open to fulfill Your will. For that, free me from my selfishness and my pride.

Through this fast, free me from bad habits, appease my passions, make me grow in virtues. May your grace remain in the depth of my soul and may it purify me and totally dominate me!

Prayer to break the fast

Help me, Lord, to look like your Son in all trials and temptations, so that I know how to repel any seduction and can, in this way, serve you more and more, seeking your Word.

Oh Holy Mary, your heart was completely free. Your commitment was to the will of God. Get for me today the grace of joyful fasting, in which my heart can sing, With You, a song of thanksgiving. Make my purpose of fasting strong and lasting.

The hunger that I feel, today, I offer it for all humanity. Oh Mary, intercede for me! By your intercession and protection, I am free from any evil and from the devilish temptation. Teach me, oh Mother, to fast and to pray, so that each day I remain more like your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit!

Amen!

How to fast and pray to please God

God’s Word does not specifically require believers to pray and fast. At the same time, the believer must definitely spend time in prayer and fasting. Very often, however, the focus of prayer and fasting is abstinence from food. Instead, the goal of Christian fasting should be to stop focusing our eyes on the things of this world and focus our thoughts on God.

Fasting should always be done for a defined time because not eating for long periods can be harmful to the body. Fasting is not a method of punishing our bodies, and it should not be used as a method of dieting.

We should not pray and fast to lose weight, but to have a deeper fellowship with God.

By taking our eyes off the things of this world through biblical prayer and fasting, we can better focus on Christ. Matthew 6:16-18 states: “When you fast, do not show yourselves grieved like the hypocrites; for they disfigure their faces, so that men may see that they are fasting.

I tell you the truth, they already received their reward. You, however, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face, so that you do not show men that you are fasting, but your Father, who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

The power of fasting and prayer

Praying and fasting are not automatically effective in achieving the desires of those who fast. Fasting or not, God promises to answer our prayers only when we ask according to his will. 1 John 5:14-15 tells us, “And this is the confidence we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

And, if we know that he hears us in everything we ask for, we know that we have already achieved the things that we have asked for. In the time of the prophet Isaiah, the people complained because they had fasted, but God did not respond in the way they wanted (Isaiah 58: 3-4). Isaiah proclaimed that the outward ritual of fasting and prayer, without the right attitude in the heart, was useless (Isaiah 58:5-9).

How can you know if you are praying and fasting according to God’s will? Are you praying and fasting for things that honor and glorify God? Does the Bible clearly reveal what God’s will is for you? If we are asking for something that is not honoring God or God’s will for our lives, God is not going to give what we ask for, whether we fast or not.

How can we know the will of God? God promises to give us wisdom when we ask. James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives freely to all and does not blame, and it will be given to him.”
