Meaning of Odu 11, Owonrin: characteristics, ruling orisha and more!

Owonrin, or Owanrin Meji, is the eleventh of the sixteen Odus that make up the Yoruba oracle. In the Yoruba language, “Wó-ri” can be translated as “turning or turning the head”, a metaphor for death. Its meaning, in this sense, points to a union between life and death, mutually representing the two dimensions.

The Odus are part of the Yoruba culture’s divination system known as Ifá. It is the most important oracle for this culture, based on the sacred texts of Odu Ifá.

This oracle is carried out through the whelk board by the Babalaôs, responsible for the cult of Ifá. Many religions of African origin in different parts of the world work with this system of divination, including Brazil.

Each Odu is identified with the number of whelks that, falling with the natural slit facing downwards, are considered open. Owonrin, therefore, is the destiny that responds to eleven open and five closed whelks. In this article we will discuss the characteristics of this Odu, and what drawing from it represents for your life.

If Odu 11 was opened for you during a prediction or if you are a child of this Odu, it is very important that you know its main characteristics and meanings in order to understand the paths of your destiny. Next, we will present all the most important elements for understanding Owonrin.

Birth Odus work in a similar way to our zodiac signs. It is a mark, a sign that you are born with and that carries with it all the karma of good and bad deeds done in your past lives.

At birth, you are born with the mark of one of the sixteen main Odus that will be responsible for tracing your path in the world, in addition to your personal characteristics and behaviors.

The orixás do not have the power to change the destiny and life of their children, they just release energy for you to fulfill your destiny within the path you are already on. In summary, the Odu is the representation of your life as a whole: destiny, karma, personality, feelings, illnesses and existence.

If you choose paths different from those predicted by your Odu, it is common to say that you have a negative Odu, which will bring you a feeling of discomfort and non-belonging, precisely because of the detour you chose to take.

All Odus have a good dimension and a bad dimension. The eleventh Odu, Owonrin, represents blessing and anxiety. The fate of people governed by this Odu is marked by fortune, achievements and wealth.

However, there is also a very harmful dimension marked by haste and anxiety, capable of affecting even your time on Earth.

The eleventh Odu is governed by four different orixás: Iansã (Oiá), the orixá of fire, winds and lightning; Ogun, the orixá of war, iron and agriculture; Oxossi, the orixá of hunting, animals and forests; and Exu, the orixá of language. Among all these orishas, Iansã and Exu are the closest corresponding orishas to Owonrin.

The Odu 11 is equivalent to the cardinal points west (W) and southwest (SW). In addition, Owonrin has Uranus as a planetary correspondence, a planet that is associated with rebellious behavior, revolutions and sudden changes: the anxiety for changes and innovations are characteristics that bring them together.

Owonrin rules on Sundays. Furthermore, it is recommended that on the eleventh day of every month, some thanks be given to this Odu.

In Odu symbology, everything that exists on Earth is made up of four elements: water, fire, earth and air. The symbology of Odu 11, Owonrin, is one who has his head on earth and his feet on fire.

There is a predominance, therefore, of the earth element over the fire element in this Odu. This predominance is associated with the virtues of protection, help, admission and acceptance.

Odu 11 acts mainly on three parts of the body: the heart, the arteries and the eyes. The heart symbolizes the courage and fighting spirit of your children who, due to their initiative and willingness, tend to move away from religious faith.

The eyes, in this case, manifest the material, seductive and attractive aspects linked to the children of Owonrin. They are people who give a lot of importance to appearance and enjoy the pleasures that life can provide.

In both cases, these parts of the body need extra attention, as the voluptuous life that Odu 11 predicts can lead to health problems that directly affect the cardiovascular system and vision.

Odu 11 is a sign closely linked to the material dimensions of human existence. Its link to wealth and financial prosperity is represented by the color gold. Furthermore, Owonrin is also known to be the Odu of sexuality and seduction. Its voluptuous dimension is represented by warm colors such as red, orange, yellow and burgundy.

The propitious numbers of the Odu 11 are: 09, 13, 29, 45, 61, 77 and 93. Among all these, its main numerical value is the number 13.

The vulnerable points of those who suffer the influence of Odu 11 are the throat, the reproductive system and the digestive system. These vulnerabilities are the result of your children’s most common negative proclivities.

Because they are materialistic people, attached to luxury and comfort, it is common for the organs linked to their sustenance (such as the stomach and intestines) to suffer an energy overload and become susceptible to developing diseases such as tumors and constant abdominal pain.

The sexual behavior of those governed by Odu 11 also negatively affects the organs linked to the reproductive system, due to their pronounced voluptuousness and attachment to the carnal dimension of love and its relationships.

The quizilas are elements that do not have an energy favorable to a certain orixá or Odu. By negatively influencing the lives of these deities, they also negatively affect the lives of their respective children. The quizilas can extend from food to clothing and can also involve children of other orixás.

The children of Odu 11 should avoid wearing colorful and patterned clothes. They should also avoid using and owning objects that also have more than two colors.

As for food, they must avoid eating popcorn, corn and guinea fowl meat. Bathing in the sea and having sex with the children of Omolu can also negatively affect your life.

If Owonrin is your Odu, it is important that you know some important recommendations to be in harmony with your ruler. First of all, give preference to the use of monochrome or two-color clothes, at most. Always choose to use stronger perfumes and perform periodic smoking rituals with Java incense.

Secondly, it is advisable for the children of Odu 11 to have a guava tree in their backyard. Next to the foot, an Ossaim tool (the orixá of sacred herbs and leaves) must be buried.

There are many versions of the origin legends of the Odus. One of the best known tells that Ifá was an entity incapable of speaking even of his youth, when his father, advised by the priests, hit him with a stick on his head. Due to the impact, Ifá began to speak sixteen words and each of these words corresponded to a main Odu.

According to the sacred texts of Odu Ifá, Odu 11 is a female, nocturnal, incoming, cold and dry Odu. Owonrin was generated from a black, red and white cloth, water, cachaça and honey, at a four-way crossroads.

Owonrin is the direct assistant of Ejonile (life) during the day and Ologbon (death) during the night. That is why Odu 11 is attributed with knowing the secrets of life and death.

Observing the symbology of Odu 11, there is a great resemblance to a cup standing upright with its mouth open upward ready to be filled with all the blessings the world can offer.

However, Owonrin’s tendencies can be either favorable or unfavorable to those who are ruled by him. See the main trends below.

Alongside Odu Okaran, Owonrin is one of the two Odus responsible for sexuality. While the first is associated with the seductive aspects of passion, Odu 11 is associated with virility and intense sexual vigor.

These are people who place sex as an element of extreme importance in relationships, and can often place it above everything else. Their behavior is extremely volatile, placing carnal desires and pleasure as a priority in their lives.

Those who have Odu 11 as their birth Odu are people with a lot of empathy and concern for others. Your good heart attracts many sincere friendships and admirers.

However, your kindness and generosity can make you very difficult to deny help to anyone who asks for help. This behavior can make you an easy target for malicious people.
