History of Isis, the Goddess of Egypt

Isis is the daughter of Nut and Geb, primordial gods of heaven and earth, respectively. In addition to her, the couple had Osiris (god of the beyond), Set (god of war) and Nephthys (goddess of death). To rule the world, the holy brothers joined in marriage. With that, Isis married Osiris and Nephthys with Set.

The God Nut decided that the God Osiris would become king of Ancient Egypt and, by his side, Isis would become queen. However, Set was not at all satisfied with his father’s decision and, out of envy, murders Osiris, dismembering his body and scattering it across the Earth.

Because of the loss of her lover, the Goddess Isis was plunged into a deep sadness, however, she did not rest until she found each member of her husband. With the help of her sister, the goddess Nephthys, she is able to reassemble Osiris’ body and bring him to life.

However, the strength of love and determination were not enough to make Osiris live forever beside Isis. In fact, the period when he came back to life was used to copulate and give birth to the son Horus, the god of the heavens and the living. From that moment, Isis guaranteed her lover’s life only in the underworld, in the Tuat.
