Explaining Umbanda entities

Umbanda believes that there are basically two types of Egun: The Egun who is interested in doing good and evolving spiritually, and the Egun who is attached to earthly vices and does evil to steal the energy of the incarnate.

The first Egun mentioned is in a vibrating range of good. And depending on its evolution and karma, it will become in tune with one of the phalanges of Umbanda entities, which we will explain below which they are.

Exus as Umbanda entities

Exus as Umbanda entities can be men or women. When men, they can use capes and pitchforks. When women, they are called Pomba-giras, with their full skirts, their flowers and their contagious laughter. Therefore, it is easier to understand human needs such as love, sex, money.

Exu should not be confused with the Devil. Exu is a messenger. Exus don’t do work for evil. Who does this are mocking Eguns who call themselves Exus. Be alert!

Black and old caboclos like Umbanda entities

Old caboclos and pretos vibrate at a higher frequency and, therefore, take care of more energetic matters such as health, well-being, karma. Usually the entity of the Mother or Father of Santo that coordinates the terreiro is either a caboclo or an old black.

Caboclos as Umbanda entities, represent indigenous strength, connection with Nature, mental and spiritual health, humility, wisdom and treatment with medicinal herbs. Old black represents patience, humility, perseverance, forgiveness and the pursuit of physical health. Great counselors, they are warm and loving. They represent the spirit of the Colony’s slaves.

Erês (children or Ibejada) as Umbanda entities

The erês vibrate in the frequency of the soul and mainly take care of our happiness and our big dreams. They are souls that disincarnated very early and that’s why they keep their playful spirit. They like to play and eat treats when they come to the terreiro. They make people happy and contagious with their purity and innocence, and they can surprise with the graces they can achieve with their faith.
