And in this case, biblical names for boys are packed with meaning.

Choosing a biblical name is very common all over the world, as it brings a special message, inspiring stories and strong meaning. As several names are very different for the Portuguese language, we ended up opting for the more classic ones, also thinking about the sound and impact they cause.

Biblical names – Peter – He was one of the 12 disciples of Jesus, but this was not his name initially. Before he was called Simon. In an important passage in the Bible, where Christ baptizes Simon, he says: “And I declare to you: you are Kepha and on this kepha I will build my Church and the gates of hell will never prevail against it.” Kepha, in Aramaic, means stone and, when translated into Greek, the name became Petros. Peter was also the first Pope of the Catholic Church.

Biblical names – Matheus – He was one of the first followers of Jesus, author of the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of the Hebrews. He used to be a tax collector and many judged Jesus when he called him to be his apostle, but the answer was, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” He traveled the world preaching the word of the messiah and died in Ethiopia.

Biblical Names – David – He is an important character in the Bible. His story is recorded in more than 60 chapters. He is regarded as Israel’s greatest king, but he had a simple start in life. He was a shepherd and played the harp for King Saul. In a battle he slew the giant Goliath and thus gained the right to marry one of the king’s heirs. When Saul and his other son Ishbosheth died, he took their place, being adored by all for his courage. He brought unity and prosperity to the people. Jews believe that the Messiah will be an heir of King David.

The apostle is said to have performed several miracles, traveled the world, and died crucified. The Evangelist was known as one of the “believable men, full of spirit and wisdom”. He traveled the world also evangelizing and baptizing believers, as well as helping the most needy, such as widows and children.
