8 Superfoods You Shouldn’t Overeat

The term “superfood” was first used to promote bananas in the early 20th century. Today the word is used to describe any food that is said to provide many health benefits, especially those rich in nutrients and low in calories. While there are many advantages involved in its consumption, overdoing it can be just as dangerous as eating junk food.

1. Broccoli can irritate the intestine

One cup of raw broccoli contains just 31 calories, six grams of carbs and 0.3 grams of fat. It is rich in fiber, protein, vitamin C, potassium, other vitamins and minerals. Unlike wild salmon, farmed salmon has nearly twice the amount of fat and calories, according to studies. Recent research has even found that farmed salmon may have a link to obesity and the amount of pollutants and chemicals possibly found in farm waters.

3. Cinnamon can poison the body

Cinnamon is considered a superfood, due to its high antioxidant content and many medicinal properties. It can lower blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation and prevent heart disease. For all these properties, the popular apple pie condiment is considered one of the main superfoods of the spice family.

Despite all its health benefits, the amount of cinnamon ingested by an adult should be one teaspoon per day. Research has revealed that too much cinnamon can be toxic, due to the coumarin present in it. This substance is especially dangerous for people with liver problems, as it can cause damage to this organ if ingested in excess.

It is important to note that there are different types of cinnamon with different levels of coumarin:

Cassia Cinnamon (+1%) — considered “regular cinnamon,” the one we commonly use.Ceylon Cinnamon (0.04% coumarin) — also known as “True Cinnamon” or “Mexican Cinnamon”.Korintje Cinnamon (4% Coumarin) — a variety of Cassia cinnamon, most common in North America. Saigon cinnamon (8% coumarin) — stronger and sweeter than other cinnamons.

4. Avocados can cause fat accumulation

Avocado has gained global popularity as a superfood in recent years due to its nutritious properties. A single serving of avocado represents a quarter of an adult’s vitamin K needs, a fifth of our folate needs, and a tenth of the vitamin E needed daily. The fatty fruit is also rich in omega-3s and fiber, but too many avocados can also cause inflammation, bloating, and an upset stomach.

Due to their fatty properties, avocados are not only rich in nutrients, but also have a high caloric value. Like any other calorie, excess intake can lead to weight gain. If you want to include this fruit in your daily diet, experts recommend eating 50 grams, or about a third of half an avocado.

5. Hummus can cause obesity

It’s important to note that the benefits of hummus are mostly found in the homemade version. Most store-bought hummus isn’t all that healthy and may even contain dangerous ingredients like high sodium, unnecessary oils and preservatives. The hummus found on grocery store shelves, like other processed foods, can contribute to obesity and various diseases, so it’s best to make your own.

6. Kombucha can increase acidity

Kombucha or kombucha is a fermented sweet tea with a high content of antioxidants and probiotics. The drink gained popularity in the 1990s, but was identified in 220 BC. C., in China. Today, it is considered a healthy superfood and a must-have detox drink. 7. Tuna can affect your motor skills

Tuna is a lean protein rich in omega 3 and vitamin B12. Studies have shown that eating tuna is good for your heart and strengthens eye health, the immune system and lowers blood pressure. But like salmon and other fish, tuna contains mercury, which makes it a dangerous food if consumed frequently and in excess. Mercury poisoning manifests itself in loss of memory or vision, physical tremors and numbness.

Comparing the benefits of fresh tuna with canned tuna, both are low in fat and high in protein. However, research has shown that albacore, or the great white tuna, contains a higher mercury content compared to its smaller, darker relatives.

8. Green tea can cause pain

Green tea has been hailed as one of the healthiest beverages in the world due to its high antioxidant content. According to research, the antioxidants in green tea reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, burn fat and improve brain function. Although there are numerous benefits linked to drinking, excessive amounts can cause negative side effects, mainly due to its high caffeine content.

The effects of excessive caffeine consumption include insomnia, headaches, palpitations and heartburn. For those with a low tolerance for caffeinated products, green tea can also trigger heartburn and indigestion. According to experts, three to five cups of green tea a day is more than enough for an average adult.
