15 Rules of Internet Etiquette to Never Forget

The etiquette net, or “netiquette”, is a relatively new term, but extremely necessary. The thing is, many people aren’t aware that the rules of polite conversation don’t just apply in regular dialogue, but also on social media.

O awesome.club decided to publicize the basic rules of netiquette. Of course, they are not rigidly established, but it is precisely these that expose the virtual ignorant.

If someone sends you a photo, video or text that you saw a long time ago, even on multiple occasions, it’s not worth arrogantly declaring that this is something old. Make an expression of surprise: it costs you nothing and it will be pleasant for your interlocutor. Do not activate the loudspeaker of a conversation in public places. It’s not 2005 anymore, when it meant you were an important person. Before sharing material about a tiny kitten that is looking for a home or will be euthanized, please take a minute to verify the information. In 90% of cases, it is fake news.
There’s no harm in calling via Skype or FaceTime, as long as you tell your partner you will.🇧🇷 You never know what your acquaintance might be up to when you unexpectedly decided to video call.

Messages that require feedback should be answered throughout the day. Waiting too long will be considered rude. Messages with replacement letters such as $symbols, CAPITAL letters or this way are best left in 2005. If you unexpectedly became a participant in a turbulent debate where the main topic was left out, it became something personal and no one can stop you in any way, know that you are being a victim of “flaming” – flame. Flamings often arise spontaneously, develop quickly, and end up in nothing: participants do not change their minds, except when doubts are generated among observers of the battle. The best decision a person can make it is to express your position in a very constructive way and to avoid falling into the argument again.

All social and instant messaging networks have groups dedicated to a certain topic. For example, work group, neighbors group, discussion about choosing a friend’s gift, among others. With these arguments all over the place, a problem known as “off topic messages”, (off-topic messages), which consist of sending messages that have nothing to do with the subject for which the group was created, or what the publication was about. Considering how many similar conversations there are these days on everyone’s messaging services, this is completely annoying and officially banned in some groups.
The rules of communication on social networks with friends and acquaintances are very important: if you have seen a post, comment something positive or simply ignore it. A person posts his thoughts and photographs for the sake of communication, not for criticism. The same applies to public figures or magazines. If something or a photo of someone you don’t like has been posted, stop following or reading. Communicating to the author that you are no longer interested in him or any negative comments makes no sense. The author does not create publications to please you specifically. He likely has a plan for his posts that doesn’t revolve around your preferences. In general, posting negative comments is interesting to analyze. Many users of forums and social networks lose their human image: they do not hesitate to be rude, offend and bring out their inner know-it-all. They begin to criticize, for example, independent cinematography or the thermodynamic processes of a multistage compressor. Unfortunately, this is because, for most of them, the internet is the only place where they can have any kind of conversation.

Don’t post too much information about yourself. First, this sounds intrusive, and second, always remember that Facebook already knows a lot about you. It’s not worth posting requests to take down the system on your timeline.
Don’t post anything on someone else’s timeline, nor birthday wishes. Everyone has an “inbox”, a private number. Also, nowadays the timeline is like a person’s virtual face, so a stranger shouldn’t be a part of your content. And finally: if you encounter a virtual communication problem, imagine how you would react in real life. The rules are the same and you will easily find the solution.
