What is The Hand of Orula?

The Hand of Orula is a religious system constituted from the teachings of Orunmila, spirit of the Yoruba belief called Elérì Ìpin Ibìkejì Olódùmarè. Orunmila can be translated as “Heaven knows who will be saved”, this means that he knows the fate of all human beings, the problems and the sacrifices necessary for their solution.

His representative on Earth is the Ifá Priest or Babalawo (father of secrets). In the ceremony to receive the Hand of Orula, the number of people who are performing the ritual will be important in order to determine how many babalawos will be present. can participate maximum two babalawos when there are three people and when there are more than ten they could be five or six babalawos.

The babalawos have to be present since they are the highest rank, for this reason it is necessary that they be present so that the person who is receiving the ritual can be interceded by the guardian angel.

Additionally, the babalawos are also in charge of performing the main part of the ritual. Likewise, the warriors must be included, which are: Oggun, Osun, Eshu and Oshi. The ceremony is extended and performed for three days, whether it belongs to Nigeria or Cuba.

History

The word Orula is a branch of Òrúnmìlà, the denomination of the connoisseur of the Ifá oracle. The word “Hands” is mentioned since a set of 16 seeds is obtained from the palm tree (Ope Ifá). Whoever will own the set of these seeds called Ikin will be the initiates, while the Babalawos will have at least two pairs.

The 16 sacred seeds (Ikin) will be received by the hand of Òrúnmìlà (Owofakan), through which the Ifá priests will be able to reveal the fate of whoever is performing the ceremony. According to the Ifá belief, in front of Ọlódùmarè, all beings kneel when they arrive in the world, then they will select their destiny while they are in the earthly world.

Who the only witness to this happening is Òrúnmìlà, the divinity possessing the oracle of Ifá and wisdom. During the preparations for the trip to Earth, before approaching the hall of Ọlódùmarè, a percentage of people attend the Ifá priests for divination.

Before approaching Ọlódùmarè and in the course of preparing for their trip to Earth, most people go to the Ifá priests for divination and so that the projects of each person who starts develop favorably and that is why a sacrifice is recommended.

However, in the course of Heaven to Earth, starting from the moment you are in the maternal womb, all this is unknown and performing the ceremony of accepting Òrúnmìlà is the only way you can remember.
