Orula is the god of divinationwho was present at the creation of the earth, so he knows the fate of all the inhabitants of the earth.

What is the Ilde de Orula?

He Orula Island, also known as Orunmila, is a kind of amulet which is one of the main cults of the Yoruba religion pantheon. This is a necklace and bracelet of yellow and green colors (interspersed) that should only be imposed by an Ifá priest “babalawo”.

The colors of the Ilde de Orula can also be orange and black and they represent exactly the same meaning. This imposition is made the day the Hand of Orula is received and must be placed only in the left hand, with which the person is consecrated within the Yoruba Religion.

Ilde de Orula: Meaning

The Ilde is the deal between Orula and death, where it is established that he cannot touch his children until Orula decides that his time has come.

The use of the Ilde de Orula represents the relationship that the body, soul and spirit make in order to make it known to the evil forces that there is a connection with Orulathis being the protection that he gives his children against any evil.

The bracelet consists of two colors, green and yellow, although it can vary to brown or orange, however its meaning is the same.

GREEN: represents life, purity and peace of mind

YELLOW: represents death and weakness

In many religions the hands are used to ask for or thank the blessings that the gods give us; Regardless of belief, the hands have been associated with the invocation of the higher self.

The amulet is placed on the left hand, which is an energy channel that goes from the hand directly to the heart. It is where all the energy emanating from the environment is received, including people.

If the Ilde de Orula breaks, this is a warning to the person of a dangerous situation that could happen to them, or it could also be that the bracelet absorbed some bad energy. In those cases it is best to consult with a babalawo.

History

There was a time when humans were picked up by Ikú (death) before fulfilling their predestined time on earth. The Orishas (the gods) were scared and upset until Orunmila arrived.

One day that Ikú did not realize, Orunmila was able to get the hammer of death (Iku’s tool). After Iku realized that the hammer was missing, he went very angrily to Orunmila’s house and asked him to return her hammer; Orunmila did not accept and said: “No, you were chosen by Olodumare to take the human beings when their time on earth has ended, but you have decided to take them before.” Iku replied: If they don’t die, the earth will die.”

Orunmila: “You do not have the right to take human beings before their time is up.” After reflecting on what Ikú had told her, she realized that she made sense: «If humans don’t die, the earth will die.because the earth may not be able to feed them all. And that was how Orúnmila agreed with Ikú, but with the following condition: «I return the hammer to you but you must swear to promise that you will never take my children before their time». And in this way the deal between Orúnmila and Ikú was closed; Orunmila’s children will not be able to be taken from the earth before their time.

Importance of the Ilde de Orula

Although we know the word “Ilde” means tie upand as its name indicates, this bracelet is a kind of mystical link to Émi (inner spirit), and thus be able to prevent it from being damaged by evil forces such as Ikú (death), Ófo (lost ones), Ijá (war) , Aru (diseases), among many others.

The Ilde de Orula besides being a protection for the person, it is also a representative for the society of follow-up to Ifá and Orula.

Ceremony

One of the most important moments within the Yorula religion is the decision to receive Orula. At the initiation ceremony it is determined which will be the guardian angel that will accompany the person for the rest of his life, and also determines under what sign you came down from heaven to earth.

The rite lasts for three days:

Day 1

The ceremony begins early in the morning with the arrival of the babalawos (minimum 2), who are the highest representatives of Ifá, and those in charge of preparing all the details of the initiation process.

The first step is give knowledge of the ancestors and ask for their approval. Then we proceed to the washing of herbs (homiero), in order to be able to carry out the correct washing of the spiritual implements that are received.

One of the most important moments during the ceremony is the birth of the deities (Orula); for this the sacrifice of animals is necessary.

Day 2

Also called the middle day. No spiritual activity is performed. Although it depends on the religious house if they take it as a day of rest or to feed the personal deity through a prayer of the head.

Regardless of there being no spiritual activity, it is an important day because Orula has already been bornand during that day you should NOT carry out any activity that negatively alters the spirit of the person, such as:

Seeing someone who is sick Being part of fights Having sexual relations Drinking alcoholic beverages Attending wakes

It is a day of reflection and spiritual peace.

Day 3

This is the registration day with Orula. It is determined under what sign he came down from heaven to earth and the guardian angel that will accompany him through the challenge of his life.

The ceremony begins in the early hours of the morning to inform the ancestors about the ritual that will be performed.

Those present will drink a drink made from corn, brandy and other ingredients, to ask for the blessing of the elders of the religion and of blood while singing and praying. The ritual continues with breakfast together with the babalawos, where ideas and comments are exchanged to learn more about those who will become “religious brothers”.

finished breakfast we proceed to make known the warriors and Orula, which will begin the Itá, where individual divination is carried out with the Ikines (sacred seeds of Orula), to identify the odus of Ifa that will accompany the person throughout the religion. At the end of each Ita we proceed to the astral cleaning (Apayerú) on the Ifa board.

At the end of Ifa, the babalawos meet to make the official delivery of the saints, then they go to a dinner to culminate the ceremonial of Ilde de Orula.
