Spring Equinox: Rituals to Celebrate the Date 🌼

The arrival of spring has been celebrated since antiquity. The beginning of this season symbolizes the end of winter and the beginning of milder and more fertile times. Therefore, the spring equinox is the ideal time for fertility and harmony rituals.

Discover the main symbols of spring, some simple rituals to celebrate the arrival of the flower season and a honey cake recipe to share this moment with those you love.

spring equinox

The spring equinox marks the beginning of the flowering season. The equinox represents the average position of the Sun in relation to the Earth, that is, none of the hemispheres is inclined in relation to the Sun, with its rays falling directly on the equator, illuminating both hemispheres equally – which makes the day and night are of exactly the same duration.

The date of the spring equinox varies from year to year. In general, it takes place between September 21 and 23 in the Southern Hemisphere and between March 21 and 23 in the Northern Hemisphere.

Ostara: the celebration of spring

On the spring equinox, the Sabbath of Ostara is celebrated. The name was given in honor of the goddess Eostre, linked to fertility, love and rebirth. Therefore, Ostara is the ideal time for rituals related to female fertility, love and harmony.

The main symbol of the spring equinox is not flowers, as we might think. Of Celtic origin, the celebration originated in the northern hemisphere and its main symbols are the rabbit or hare and colored eggs. Does that remind you of something?
