Psalm of Forgiveness – 4 Prayers to Forgive and Be Forgiven

Who has never made a mistake in life, cast the first stone. We have all made mistakes at some point, whether with ourselves, with others or with God.

Nobody is free to make mistakes, but it is necessary to know how to accept mistakes and ask for forgiveness, either to whom you have offended or to the divine, through the psalm of forgiveness.

In the same way that we beg God to forgive us and he has mercy on us, welcomes us into his arms and comforts our weeping of repentance, we also have to have the same mercy with our neighbor.

Forgiving someone who has wronged us actually does us more good than the other person. Grief is a very heavy load to carry.

Here are some psalms of forgiveness that you can read both when asking and when forgiving.

Psalm to ask God for forgiveness – Psalm 50

“1 The Mighty One, the Lord God, speaks and summons the earth from its rising to its setting.
2 From Zion, the perfection of beauty. God shines.
3 Our God comes, and is not silent; before him is a consuming fire, and a great storm around him.
4 He summons the high heavens and the earth, for the judgment of his people:
5 Assemble my saints, those who made a covenant with me through sacrifices.
6 The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is Judge.
7 Hear, my people, and I will speak; Hear, O Israel, and I will tell you: I am God, your God.
8 I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices, for your burnt offerings are continually before me.
9 I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your stalls.
10 For every beast of the wild is mine, and cattle on thousands of hills.
11 I know all the birds of the mountains, and everything that moves in the field is mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and the fullness of it are mine.
13 Shall I eat the meat of bulls? or shall I drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer thanksgiving to God as a sacrifice, and pay your vows to the Most High;
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me.
16 But to the wicked God says, What doest thou in reciting my statutes, and in taking my covenant in thine mouth,
17 seeing that you hate correction, and cast my words behind you?
18 When you see a thief, you delight in him; and you have part with adulterers.
19 You loose your mouth for evil, and your tongue devises deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your mother’s son.
21 You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought that I was really like you; but I will challenge you, and I will put everything before you.
22 Consider this therefore, ye that forget God, lest I tear you to pieces, and there is none to deliver you.
23 He who offers thanksgiving as a sacrifice glorifies me; and to him who orders his way well I will show the salvation of God.”

Psalm of Repentance – Psalm 32

“1 Happy is he whose transgressions are forgiven
and whose sin is covered!

2 Happy is he whose sin
is not taken into account by the Lord
and whose spirit was cleansed from deceit!

3 There was a time when I kept silent;
I didn’t want to acknowledge my sin.
Because of this, my body wasted away.
before my groaning throughout the day.

4 Day and night your hand was heavy on me;
my life dried up like a summer pond. (Break)

5 Until I confessed my sins to you
and I ceased to cover up my wickedness.
I said to myself:
‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’
And you forgive me everything!
All my guilt disappeared! (Break)

6 Now I can say that everyone who believes
must confess his sins to you, God,
as long as it is possible to find you.
In anguish, even if it is like a great stream,
will not be overthrown.

7 You are the place where I hide.
You deliver me in the midst of anguish.
You surround me with joyful songs of victory. (Break)

8 Says the Lord: ‘I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go;
I will guide you with my eyes.

9 Do not be like a wild horse or a mule,
who have no understanding,
who need a brake to be mastered.’

10 The wicked have many sorrows,
but those who trust in the Lord
are permanently surrounded by your love.

11 Rejoice in the Lord!
Be filled with joy, you who have an upright heart.
Sing for joy, you who conduct yourselves uprightly.”

Psalm for the forgiveness of sins – Psalm 51

“1 Because of your love, O God,
have mercy on me.
Because of your great compassion
erase my sins.

2 Cleanse me from all my
evils
and wash me from my sin.

3 For I know my errors well,
and my sin is always
before me.

4 Against you I have sinned —
only against you —
and I did what you hate.
You are right when you judge me
and you are right when you condemn me.

5 Indeed, I have been bad
since I was born;
I’ve been a sinner since the day
in which I was conceived.

6 What you want is a sincere heart;
fill my heart
with your wisdom.

7 Take away my sin from me,
and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter
than snow.

8 Make me hear the sounds again
of joy and happiness;
and even though you crushed me
is broken,
I will be happy again.

9 Do not look at my sins
and blot out all my iniquities.

10 O God, create in me a pure heart
and give me a new and firm will!

11 Do not cast me out of your presence,
don’t take it from me
your holy spirit.

12 Give me joy again
of your salvation
and keep the desire in me
to be obedient.

13 Then I will teach the disobedient
your laws,
and they will return to you.

14 O God, my Savior,
deliver me from death,
and with joy I will announce
your salvation!

15 O Lord, put the right words
in my mouth,
and I will praise you!

16 You don’t want me to
offer you sacrifices;
you don’t like animals
be burned as an offering to you.

17 O God, my sacrifice
it is a humble spirit;
thou shalt not reject a humble heart
and sorry.

18 O God, in your goodness,
help Jerusalem
and rebuild your walls!

19 Then you will be glad to receive
the right sacrifices
and the animals that are
totally burned.
And new bulls will be offered
on your altar.”

Psalm of Forgiveness to Others – Psalm 147

“Praise the Lord, for it is good to sing praises to our God, for it is pleasant; decorous is praise. The Lord builds Jerusalem, gathers the scattered of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.
Count the number of the stars, call them all by their names.
Great is our Lord, and of great power; his understanding is infinite.
The Lord lifts up the humble, and brings the wicked down to the ground.
Sing to the Lord in thanksgiving; sing praises to our God on the harp.
He is the one who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, and who brings grass on the mountains;
What gives the animals their sustenance, and the young of ravens, when they cry.
It does not delight in the strength of the horse, nor does it delight in the legs of man.
The Lord delights in those who fear him and in those who hope in his mercy.
Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion.
Because he has strengthened the bars of your gates; bless your children within you.
He is the one who makes your borders peaceful, and satisfies you with fine flour.
He who sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.
What gives snow like wool; scatters the frost like ash;
What throws your ice to pieces; who can resist your cold?
Send your word, and make them melt; makes the wind blow, and the waters flow.
He shows his word to Jacob, his statutes and his judgments to Israel.
He has not done so to any other nation; and as for their judgments, they do not know them. Praise the lord.”
