“Lord God, send Your guardian angel ahead of me, preparing the way for this journey. Protect me throughout the journey, getting rid of accidents or any other type of danger that may be on my way. Guide me, Lord, with Your hand.

May this trip be peaceful and pleasant, without setbacks or annoyances. May my travel companions and I return satisfied and safe. I give thanks, for I know that you will be with me all the time. Amen!”

Our Lady of Good Voyage Prayer

Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem is the patron saint of navigators, and there are records that Portuguese and Spaniards have used her since at least the 15th century. Faith in the saint came to Brazil along with the great navigations, after the Portuguese landed on Brazilian soil.

If the saint protected the voyage of so many sailors who crossed the Atlantic Ocean in caravels and with very rudimentary navigation instruments, of course she will protect your voyage too! Pray with the following prayer:

“Holy Virgin, Lady of Boa Viagem, infallible hope of the children of the Holy Church, you are the guide and effective help of those who go through life amid dangers of body and soul. Taking refuge under your maternal gaze, we undertook our journeys certain of the success you obtained when you went to visit your cousin Santa Isabel.

Your life has passed in increasing ascension in the practice of all the virtues, until the happy moment of ascending in glory to Heaven; We beseech you, therefore, O dear Mother: watch over us, your unworthy daughters, obtaining for us the grace to follow in your footsteps, assisted by Jesus and Joseph, on the pilgrimage of this life and at the last hour of our departure for eternity. Amen.”
