Knowing the history of Ochosi

With a name of Yoruba origin that means “popular guardian”, Oxóssi is the son of Oxalá and Iemanjá. He is considered the King of Ketu, as he saved the population from one of Eleyé’s birds and in this way broke a spell that was cast on them.

According to legend, just one arrow is enough for the Orisha to kill his target. In fact, that’s how he got rid of the bird. Because of this history, he can also be called “Otokan Soso”, an expression that means “warrior who only needs an arrow, as he never misses the target”.

The presence of the Orisha was very strong in the region where he was king. However, because of the way in which the history of humanity took place, their cult was practically extinct, as the population suffered great massacres, being decimated or forced to become slaves. However, the cult of the Orixá was resisted in some regions, such as Brazil, where the presence of Oxóssi is quite strong.
