Who was the Goddess Aphrodite?

To the Romans, she was Venus, to the Greeks, Aphrodite. For both peoples, Aphrodite is the goddess of what? Of love and ideal beauty. No wonder she is considered a great inspiration for artists to this day.

Furthermore, Aphrodite is a deity who masters the art of love and its pleasures. Always related to desire and passion, the goddess was born an adult, beautiful and beautiful, on the island of Crete, according to her myth. However, there are two legends about the story of the Goddess Aphrodite.

Then Kronos threw his father’s penis into the sea, and from the white foam that formed near the flesh, the beautiful Aphrodite was born. A curiosity: from the blood of the wound of Uranus that spilled on Earth, the Erinyes (goddesses of revenge), the Giants and the Meliades (the nymphs of wars) were born.

Aphrodite’s loves

It is not surprising that the goddess of love loved so much, according to Greek mythology. In fact, her only legitimate marriage (arranged by her father) was to the unbeautiful and unlikable Hephaestus, the god of fire.

Faced with a forced and infertile relationship, Aphrodite nurtured several extra-marital relationships. It is said that her greatest passion and the most troubled happened with Ares, god of war. With him, she had nothing more, nothing less than 7 children:

• Pothos: god of passion;
• Harmony: goddess of harmony;
• Deimos: god of terror;
• Eros: God of love;
• Phobos: god of fear;
• Previous: god of unrequited love;
• Himeros: god of sexual desire.

Furthermore, the Goddess Aphrodite had an affair with the messenger god, Hermes. With him, the goddess had a son who was born with both female and male sexual organs, named Hermaphroditus.

Aphrodite also enjoyed a relationship with Apollo, the god of light, and with him she had a son named Hymenaeus, the god of marriage. Later, the goddess became related to the god of wine and parties, Dionysus, and from the union was born Priapus, the god of fertility.

But it wasn’t just gods that Aphrodite related to. On the contrary, the goddess seduced mortals and the most controversial case was with the young and beautiful Adonis. Incidentally, the mortal also won the hearts of Persephone and Athena. Therefore, the two daughters of Zeus became great enemies of the Goddess Aphrodite.

According to myth, when Ares discovered Aphrodite and Adonis’ affair, he sent a boar to Earth to attack his rival. As a result, Adonis turns into an anemone and is demoted to the underworld.

To end the list of mortal loves, the Greek goddess seduces the Trojan prince Anchises and has two children with him, Aeneas and Liro. In fact, Aeneas was considered one of the most heroes of the Trojan War.
