What is cartomancy?

Cartomancy is a divinatory practice that uses playing cards to act as an aid in your decisions. The deck in cartomancy that stands out the most is the gypsy deck, as it is very old and full of well-developed symbologies.

Cartomancy and the gypsy deck

Contrary to what the name says, it was not created by the gypsy people, only rediscovered and widely disseminated by them. Its creation is due to the French Marie Anne Lenormand; around 1840, the monarch created the deck based on the tarot, and attended personalities of the French nobility.

After the death of Mademoiselle Lenormand, her deck was forgotten until 1900, when it was rediscovered by the Gypsy people. Hence the current name.

How does the gypsy deck work?

As with all card games, the cartomancy of the gypsy deck takes us to the reading of messages blocked in our unconscious, thus functioning as a key to opening and consequently a way to externalize our understanding.
