Celebrating Yemanja

Iemanjá’s domain is in the water. Whether in the ocean, in the sea, in ponds, rivers, or waterfalls, your strength and vibration are in these environments. The sea is the place where this Orixá is most often celebrated, jumping 7 waves or performing rituals with an offering from Iemanjá. This is because it returns everything that is deposited in it. Requests, dreams, faith, prayers, and even negative energy. Some people believe that if the offering is returned on the beach, it means that the wish will not be granted, so they go to the open sea to deposit their gifts.

Offering of Yemanja

It is common to see people offering combs, makeup, perfumes and other objects to Iemanjá. Many still use styrofoam boats and plastic bottles. But have you ever noticed the dirt that remains on the beach afterwards? I think the Queen of the Seas is not very happy with the pollution and garbage in her house, which harms so many beings that are important to her (and to us too!). So, keep in mind, when preparing your Yemanja offering, that natural and biodegradable materials are most recommended.

They say that the drink of this Orisha is champagne or lemonade, but this is not true, as these drinks did not even exist in Africa. Yemanja doesn’t want food, drink, or gifts. What she wants most is your faith and your prayers.

To do your ritual, take some white roses to the beach (Iemanjá does not accept flowers of other colors), a few drops of lavender perfume and a light blue candle.

Separate the petals from the stem, light the candle and make your request or thanks. Bathe the petals in the perfume and drop them into the water. Put the stems in the trash and take the candle home later.

Understand that the sea can help us fulfill more urgent requests, such as cures for diseases, for example. He does not sign lasting works. When choosing your order, choose something straightforward, like a new job. Have faith, he will be answered.
