If you follow celebrity news, you are certainly aware that Cleo Pires has gained weight. Yes, apparently this is a subject that certain people love to debate and the actress, who has always been considered a sex symbol, ended up becoming the target of criticism about her own body.
What has happened to Cleo happens and can happen to every woman. Anyone can suddenly become a victim of mean comments, for having (and loving) a curvy body, which does not correspond to the standard of beauty imposed by society. But the actress has been putting on a show of self-love and self-esteem, showing that we shouldn’t be so cruel to our own bodies.
O awesome.club shows how Cleo is an example of a woman well resolved with her appearance and explains how she handles criticism. Her case can serve as an inspiration to other women.
About being a sex symbol
Cleo Pires “came up” before the cameras in 2005, when she played the character Lurdinha in the soap opera América, by Globo. Since then, the actress has been considered a sex symbol. A post she has always been proud of (and rightly so).
“I find it fun (being sexy). I love sensual things, I love sexy things”, she commented in an interview with Giovanna Ewbank’s YouTube channel.
But everything changed in July of this year, after she appeared at the MTV MIAW 2019 awards with a new shape🇧🇷 It was enough to gain a little weight for it to turn target of fatphobic and negative comments related to your current body. The pressure could destroy the actress’s self-esteem, but she rebutted the criticism with class, showing that she is very well resolved.
The artist’s answer
In a publication posted on Instagram, Cleo tells how she has always been the target of criticism about her body by the media, regardless of her weight. “When I get fat, they say, ‘What did she do to her face? She’s getting deformed’. When I lose weight, they say that (…) I am becoming unrecognizable. Every day, someone shows up talking about something I didn’t do,” wrote the actress.
In the same outburst, Cleo said that she usually tries to focus on positive comments, but this time she needed to express herself more clearly and vehemently. 🇧🇷Can’t naturalize these comments anymorebecause I think of so many girls and women who, like me, suffer from eating and emotional disorders because of this irresponsible, unreachable and cruel standard”, she commented.
The actress continues the text saying that she refuses to “feel ashamed” of her own body and gives a message to women who are going through the same situation.
“For you who, like me, suffer the interference of these mediocre opinions, I wish you strength. Life always has obstacles and we have to ask for courage, health and patience to overcome all of them and for growth to get where we want. Everything is fine. It’s okay to gain weight, it’s okay to lose weight, it’s okay!🇧🇷
The movement Body Positive
Cleo Pires’ speech is an example of how we should be more kind to our own bodies and how we should respect bodies that deviate from the beauty standards created by the fashion industry and social media. That’s exactly what the movement body positive pleats: acceptance of the body.
have the mentality body positive is to believe that all bodies deserve respect, regardless of size, shape or appearance🇧🇷 Cleo’s case reveals that, although the movement emerged in the 1960s, in the United States, her ideas are never as necessary as in 2019.
It is important to know that the body positive movement has two ways🇧🇷 The first is individual, that is, it is to love yourself and your body the way it is. The second path is related to society, as we must understand that all bodies deserve respect and access: everyone must have access to clothes, to go everywhere, not to suffer criticism, and so on. In other words, all bodies must be treated as equal and beautiful.
about the reviews
Loving your own body is not easy because, since childhood, we are bombarded by a standard of beauty imposed by the media (and, increasingly, by social networks) that, in most cases, does not correspond to a “real” body. Even if unconsciously, the tendency is that we “fight” to achieve an unattainable beauty. Therefore, any criticism can be enough to affect our self-love.
This is where Cleo Pires comes in as inspiration: value the positive comments and don’t waste time with the negative ones. Nowadays, the actress posts photos praising her body on social networks, ignores people who come to criticize her and takes the time to thank her for the compliments.
