What were the first versions of now common objects like?

Technology has been developing rapidly over the past few decades, and when we look at prototypes or early versions of some currently everyday objects, we may not even believe what our eyes see. These are articles that may seem unsophisticated, funny or even uncomfortable, but which were important in preparing the ground for the technologies of the future.
