Unusual information about the human body that is little known

We rarely stop to think about the complexity of our organism. Did you know, for example, that you can taste flavors with your ankle? Or that men and women lose almost the same amount of hair each day?

O awesome.club gathered for you a selection of data about our body that, for some reason, is not very publicized.

The amount of saliva secreted by the body is surprising: in one day, we produce enough to fill a half-liter bottle, and sometimes even more, as the amount depends on the food ingested during the day. Human beings have approximately 160 billion blood vessels. If it were possible to stretch them in a line, the result would be approximately 160,934 km long, enough to go 4 times around the Earth. Our digestive system is very long. Adding the large and small intestines together with the stomach, it would all be approximately 9 meters long (that’s the height of a 3-story building). And, clearly, most of this corresponds to the intestine: the large intestine measures 1.8 meters, while the small intestine measures 6.1 meters.
The body structure of adults is very different from that of children. The main difference is in the number of bones: a child has, on average, 90 to 95 more bones than an adult. This is due to the fact that in the process of growth, bones come together. Our body doesn’t feel the taste just with the mouth. For example, if you rub your heel with onion or garlic, after about 1 hour you will taste the food in your mouth. A person blinks every 4 seconds, or about 15 times a minute. Making a simple calculation, we blink about 20 thousand times during the day. And we only keep our eyes open for a total of 1.5 hours. In addition to saliva, the mouth also contains bacteria. And there are more of them in our mouths than there are people on the planet: about 7.6 billion.
If it were possible to turn an eye into a camera, its resolution would be 576 megapixels. But the brain would not be able to store a large number of images of that size: its resources would be enough for “only” 2.5 million GB. If you’re not sure how big your foot is, you can simply look at your forearm. The length of this body part is exactly the length of your foot. Human nails don’t grow that slowly. Their growth rate is approximately 3.47 mm per month, and the process develops most rapidly in the middle finger. Toenails grow 2 times slower.
Every day, we lose many particles from our skin. Their number can reach 1 million, because every hour we lose between 30 and 40 thousand. That’s why most of the dust that forms in our home is made up of fur. It is not a secret for anyone that we must maintain the necessary amount of all microelements in our body. Thus, the amount of iron in our body would be enough to make a small nail weighing 4 grams. There is the false idea that only women lose hair in large amounts, but this is not true. Women lose 50 to 100 hairs a day, while men lose 25 to 100.
Newborns’ eyes are always gray or blue. Our body has special cells, melanocytes, responsible for secreting melanin where it is needed, including the iris of the eyes. As the mother’s womb is always dark, babies’ eyes can only be grayish or blue, as melanocytes start working only in the presence of light. This explains the fact that many children change their eye color during the growth process. Our fingers are very sensitive and can sense even very small objects. For example, if the Earth were the size of a finger, by touching it, you would be able to easily recognize a house, a car or a tree. Our body emits a lot of heat. In just 1 hour, we release the same amount of energy as a 100 watt light bulb.
