Understand what your voice says about your personality

Word went around the world when Columbus resident Ted Williams went from being a homeless man to becoming a celebrity in less than 24 hours. He lived on the city streets and displayed a sign: “I have the divine gift of voice, I am a disgraced former radio announcer.” Cameraman Doral Chenoweth recorded his story, played it on the network and received over 10 million hits.

When Ted said he had the divine gift of the voice he was right, because our voice acts as a kind of fingerprint of spirituality. From early times, the voice served as a tool for language and the one who had the most emotion became a protector of the group, a shaman, and later religious leaders of a community. It is not an indicator of the “physical body”, but the result of the emotional, spiritual and cultural aspect of each one, that is, the personality. It says “who we were, what we are and what we will be”.

The voice can be used as a way of ascending in life, but for this it is important to speak in a cadenced way, if possible in the exact tone, extending the vowels.

The human being does not have one voice, but several, with which he creates emotions, brings people together or separates them and, through dialogue, manages to organize himself, creating societies, becoming an individual with an identity.

The Evolution and Human Behavior magazine revealed that the voice interferes with the love conquest, the duration of the relationship and promotions at work, as it reveals several factors such as physical, cultural and emotional condition.

The voice is produced by the vocal cords. The air that has just left the lungs passes through them, which, while still closed, undergo a pressure allowing the air to pass. Once pressed, the vocal cords come together and air accumulates under them. The newborn has a voice, but does not speak, as this is an organization of language. In adolescence, the voice changes, but those who continue to speak in a childish way reveal that they did not make the transition from child to adult, probably due to an authoritarian mother.

Between the ages of 30 and 40, a man’s voice drops an octave and in women, it drops three to four tones. At the age of 60, men’s voices become a little higher and women’s voices lower. Dysphonia, that is, hoarseness, reflects the possibility of living in a neurotic environment. The discordant voice can be caused by several reasons, such as inadequate breathing, articulation and resonance deficiency, lack of diaphragmatic support or even lack of use.

For those who depend on their voice, the vocal cords should be treated like precious stones. It is so powerful that, depending on your intonation, it takes on a whole new meaning. The happier we are, the higher the voice becomes, and when we are sad, the timbre is impoverished. A survey carried out by the British radio BBC, elected Frank Sinatra as “the voice of the millennium”, due to his perfect diction. Listeners and a committee of musicians and critics voted. Second place went to Elvis Presley and third to Nat King Cole.
